I mean Kittle was the most athletic TE in the draft according to his numbers....TE is a hard position to transition from college to the NFL. Go look at a lot of the early TEs drafted the past couple yrs most didn't exploded out of the gate, and before you say anything about Engram he doesn't even play TE in NY dude is a WR for them (never blocking).

Kittle needs to stay healthy and work on the hands and he could very well be a solid TE for us.

The second at least, you had the one cat Cleveland drafted and he hasn't done anything well....because you know.. .....he's in Clev

This is a good question, but a simpler one is : can you name the roster right now? I sure as heck can't. Also can you name the IR right now? again, I can't...without looking that is.

To the question:

Offense:

LOCKS:
Garopp and CJ
Garcon
Au Jus
Staley
Trenton Brown
Goodwin

and that is just 6 positions.

Question marks incl:
Kittle...am still not sold on him. Both kilttle and taylor managed to drop passes thru game 10...and 11 if playing. For me, that is just too much. 6-8 games...maybe...not 10
T. Taylor....how long do you give a guy to quit dropping passes? Gone unless kept as PR.
Gone:
fusco
Laken Tomlinson
kilgore
Beadles

Fence sitters
Hyde
Breida
Garnett
Magnuson flamed out at T, inside OG/C only, and he didn't get much time there...probably for good reason. And put magnus at C and OG rest of way...let's see if he has it or not.
Darren Williams...got to see one play against SEA. needs to play in next 5 games...or not if doesn't cut it. Right now fence sitter, pending play.
Defense:
LOCKS:

Buckner
Solomon Thomas
Foster
Spoon
Colbert
Blair
DJ Jones
Mitchell...I yr more.
and that is only 5 DLs ..we need 3 more.
LBs..only 1, need 2 starters
DBs...only 2, Spoon and Colbert ...need two starters.

That is 4 DLs, 2 DBs, 1LB ...total 7 starter positions.

Question marks:
Dontae Johnson
Tartt
Dumervil...maybe one yr more
Coyle

GONE
Reid
& ward...and that is based on injury. if he is always injured, then he isn't playing...and we have seen enough. Let him go elsewhere. We need a 16 game DB.

Last but not least, Arik Armstead...I think he is a reclamation project and gets another yr, inside, not out. I think he is worth keeping one more yr. Also depends on who the DC is.

Summary:
6 starting positions on Offense and 7 starting postions on Defense...plus the bonus...one extra potential FrQB with CJ. That means we need 5 starters on O (only 4 if keep Hyde/Briedia) and need 4 starters on Defense....unless there is room made for AA, but that would be for the rotational DL.

When you consider we had 4 starters at beginning of yr, to now have 11 and possibly 12 with RB...that ain't all that bad. Not what I hoped but after seeing our miserableness, I am happy with between 11-12 starters. We gotta have more. Garcon as the only sure handed WR...was a surprise. Also we gotta get Au Jus into passing game. We will with JimmyG
Defense:
LOCKS:
Buckner
Solomon Thomas
Foster
Spoon
Colbert
Blair-Most likely depth
DJ Jones- definitely depth
Mitchell...I yr more.- agree

What is that?
Locks=
Jimmy G
Trent Brown
Rueben Foster
DeForest Buckner
Kyle Juice

Most likely=
Joe Staley
George Kittle
Solomon Thomas
Ahkello Witherspoon
J Tartt

Good chance=
Adrian Colbert
Pierre Garçon
Carlos Hyde

Don't care what that says, game film he looks slow.
49ers need Nathan Peterman

Kittle ,Taylor and Goodwin could be nice complimentary weapons , but we need to acquire more play making weapons , Joe Williams could be a solid RB for us, Breida hasn't exactly earned a spot for next year , and as for the interior of our offensive line , that is where we need improvement , Tomlinson could fight for a roster spot, Garnett also needs to show he's worth keeping around , and we need a dominant center to anchor our attack , a clean passing pocket for Jimmy G will go a long way towards improving our offense

Defense

Buckner
Thomas
Mitchell
Foster
Tartt
Ward
Colbert ....these guys can stay, we need to add pieces around them to build a solid defense , I've given up on Armstead, Lynch, Carradine, DJ and Harold,
Agree with everything except bolded. I think Breida has been pretty solid this year. While not spectacular, he catches the ball well and has a nice burst. I'm not saying he could carry the load of being the feature back but looks like a nice compliment to Hyde. I'd kind of like to see him get more touches to see how productive he could be.
Really need to load up on Oline, LBs and pass rushers.
For all of the draft picks on the front line, we don't look any better getting to the QB than we did since Aldon drove his clown car off into the sunset.
Obviously, Aaron Lynch's time with the 49ers is coming to an end.

He's a tight end. Speed is not top of the priorities.

In today's game it's a huge plus if a TE has speed and can block...kittle can do both.

Like I said imo TE is one of the hardest positions to translate to the NFL. He's gonna need time,he's gotta stop getting injured (someone called him brittle kittle which is true right now).

I wanted to draft Gerald Everett personally but not in the 2nd rd. Kittle so far has been a fine 5th rd pick...we should target a mid-tier TE in FA (Luke Wilson is a cheap option)

What "game film" are you watching lol?
Jimmy G, Buckner
Juice, Mitchell
Garcon, Solly
Kittle, Foster
Brown, Witherspoon
Staley

I think Goodwin most likely starts out the year but I wouldn't guarantee that.
with the complete turnover in WRs, I was surprised we ended up with so little improvement. True, they were using later picks to re-staff the WRs...who very definitely needed to go. I was all in on that. But the results of the handpicked guys...disappointing. If we want a #1 WR, then FA a probowler or take the best one in draft. I would really prefer a ready to go probowler, just not sure what all the choices are this yr. Also, not sure how, but kyle and john have to improve their picks for WRs this yr..Last yr was Garcon and then two guys who are still dropping the ball 11 games in, kittle and Taylor , both big disappointments.

The other disappointment was Zut, barnes, kigore, Laken, Fusco, theus, and to some extent, Magnus, tho he was relatively far down..UDFA? not sure. We gotta FA 3 starters who are healthy, at OG, C, and OG. Then get some good talent in draft who can become starters but aren't ready yet...and get two or even 3 of them. Then pray for Garnett that he can deliver. But don't count on him nor anyone else not named staley or Brown.

RBs...no idea where kyle is here. Maybe a RB high in draft, maybe Hyde...or Brieda. This is up in the air at present;

DBs...need two starters, I safety, 1 CB.

ERs...need two, no matter how you slice it. Here it is FA if any available, and then the best one in draft.

WRs ...already mentioned. but one has to be a #1 WR. We got nada for that, and ???from there on down.

But having a FR QB PLUS a great up and comer....invaluable. That can make up for a lot of other shortcomings. This is by rights, the one hardest slot to fill and we got a top end backup who will be starter quality in a couple yrs. We should get bonus points for this. if somebody wanted CJ for a Wentz like six pack...that would be the only deal I MIGHT consider for CJ. Other wise, he is untouchable. Only available if someone goes crazy with an offer. Otherwise he stays here for next 3 yrs.

Finally, we need TWO LBs unless Coyle or one of our current make shift guys come thru.

The big question is, tho, where do you start? ie, what do you fix first. It has to be the OL, with 3 FAs OG/C/OG. After that in FA, it would be between #1 WR and ER. LBs
have to be gotten somewhere. And the DBackfield ...where do you put them in order of getting who first? The OLs are easy. Same for ERs. (Or 1 ER). But how you decide which order for #1WR (and who is available in both FA and draft)...that's where it gets hard, and no idea how GM/HC go about this. Like this yr, I guess you just take who is available that we need at that slot.

The REALLY BAD NEWS? We need 22 ready to play BACKUPS and right now have...NONE. Ouch!!
