I mean Kittle was the most athletic TE in the draft according to his numbers....TE is a hard position to transition from college to the NFL. Go look at a lot of the early TEs drafted the past couple yrs most didn't exploded out of the gate, and before you say anything about Engram he doesn't even play TE in NY dude is a WR for them (never blocking).

Kittle needs to stay healthy and work on the hands and he could very well be a solid TE for us.
I expected more bang for the buck from the #3 overall pick in the 2017 draft. My highest expectation envisioned another Aaron Donald. That didn't happen in year one. Harold's most visible moments as a Niner were knelling alongside Kaep, otherwise all I see is player pushed outside the pocket by opposing tackles and be taken out of the play. Garnett? Has not shown a thing, now reports are they are rebuilding his body, why not find another body that is already built.

They might believe the talent is there with Garnett and that he needs to lose weight to be more mobile and will then fit their system. Doesn't mean you don't try to upgrade at the position as well.

I'm pretty sure Trent Taylor starts if you count slot WR, and Kyle Juszczyk definitely

Forgot about Kyle. On the fence about Taylor as the #3. Maybe. We'll see what the Draft and the offseason brings.

I don't know man. I'm leaning more towards them cutting him. Really hasn't shown much and considering what he's getting paid may not be worth it.

Robbie Gould. That's it!

Maybe Garnett if he can fit into that bikini...
I see a lot of 'ifs' in this thread. In my mind here are the only FOR SURE starters:

Jimmy G
Garcon
Juice
Staley
Trent Brown
Kittle (just don't see us getting anyone better)

Buckner
Thomas
Foster
Malcom Smith
Witherspoon
Tartt
Williams (if we start in nickel)

Likely
Goodwin will be at least 3rd receiver which you could count as a starter, although Taylor will get a lot of snaps as 3rd WR.

Mitchell - don't see DJ Jones beating him out, but it could happen.
Ward will likely start somewhere

They're not cutting Juszczyk. There's so few FBs in the league right now, so an upgrade is unlikely.

I could very easily see all three of our interior OL, our RB, one WR, our LEO, SLB, one CB, and possibly our FS (if they fall in love with Fitzpatrick) not being on our current roster.

The second at least, you had the one cat Cleveland drafted and he hasn't done anything well....because you know.. .....he's in Clev

This is a good question, but a simpler one is : can you name the roster right now? I sure as heck can't. Also can you name the IR right now? again, I can't...without looking that is.

To the question:

Offense:

LOCKS:
Garopp and CJ
Garcon
Au Jus
Staley
Trenton Brown
Goodwin

and that is just 6 positions.

Question marks incl:
Kittle...am still not sold on him. Both kilttle and taylor managed to drop passes thru game 10...and 11 if playing. For me, that is just too much. 6-8 games...maybe...not 10
T. Taylor....how long do you give a guy to quit dropping passes? Gone unless kept as PR.
Gone:
fusco
Laken Tomlinson
kilgore
Beadles

Fence sitters
Hyde
Breida
Garnett
Magnuson flamed out at T, inside OG/C only, and he didn't get much time there...probably for good reason. And put magnus at C and OG rest of way...let's see if he has it or not.
Darren Williams...got to see one play against SEA. needs to play in next 5 games...or not if doesn't cut it. Right now fence sitter, pending play.
Defense:
LOCKS:

Buckner
Solomon Thomas
Foster
Spoon
Colbert
Blair
DJ Jones
Mitchell...I yr more.
and that is only 5 DLs ..we need 3 more.
LBs..only 1, need 2 starters
DBs...only 2, Spoon and Colbert ...need two starters.

That is 4 DLs, 2 DBs, 1LB ...total 7 starter positions.

Question marks:
Dontae Johnson
Tartt
Dumervil...maybe one yr more
Coyle

GONE
Reid
& ward...and that is based on injury. if he is always injured, then he isn't playing...and we have seen enough. Let him go elsewhere. We need a 16 game DB.

Last but not least, Arik Armstead...I think he is a reclamation project and gets another yr, inside, not out. I think he is worth keeping one more yr. Also depends on who the DC is.

Summary:
6 starting positions on Offense and 7 starting postions on Defense...plus the bonus...one extra potential FrQB with CJ. That means we need 5 starters on O (only 4 if keep Hyde/Briedia) and need 4 starters on Defense....unless there is room made for AA, but that would be for the rotational DL.

When you consider we had 4 starters at beginning of yr, to now have 11 and possibly 12 with RB...that ain't all that bad. Not what I hoped but after seeing our miserableness, I am happy with between 11-12 starters. We gotta have more. Garcon as the only sure handed WR...was a surprise. Also we gotta get Au Jus into passing game. We will with JimmyG
In prospect lingo, Soloman is a grower not a shower... Has he looked good for a rookie? Yes. Has he looked good for a former pro bowler. Nope! Which is good because he is a rookie not a 3 year starter.
Offense:
Garoppolo
Kyle Juszczyk (paid him a lot of money)
Trent Brown
Joe Staley
Joshua Garnett (we are not good enough on the OL even if we upgrade next year. I think he would start at RG, and the new guy we bring in during draft/FA will be LG or vice versa. Maybe try him out at Center if you think he can handle it. )
Pierre Garcon
George Kittle (would be shocked if we drafted or paid another TE next offseason, so its a lock unless FO is dumb)

Defense-
DeForest Buckner
Solomon Thomas
Rueben Foster
Malcolm Smith (paid him a lot of money)
Ahkello Witherspoon
K'Waun Williams
Jimmie Ward FS (if healthy, think he starts over Colbert imo)
Jaquiski Tartt SS

Things we could upgrade and threaten current roster positions:

WR. Taylor and Goodwin seem average to me.

C. I mean Kilgore is basically gone. He sucks.

Both Guard positions. I think Garnett could start, but Tomlinson might be the odd man out if we bring in better people.

SAM LB. Eli Harold is just not that good.

LEO. No one can really do it well. Solomon won't lose his starting position, but he might become a full time DT.

CB2. Dontae Johnson has to be upgraded.
