I was wrong about Bowman. I thought he might improve slowly this year and remain on the team for a couple more years.
Was expecting 4 wins max. I'm moving that down to 3.

I thought Hoyer would carry over his numbers from his last 16 games and continue to be a decent bridge qb.
Thought bowman would make a solid comeback.
Thought Vance could be good in this offense, with a decent qb.
Thought Redmond would start if he was healthy
Biggest one was I Fell for Rashard Robinson hype, last time I ever listen to b******t pff. Played well last year though and was his first offseason with top level trainers and nutritionists.

I believe in Lynch/Shanny long term. I didn't think popular perception to have patience before the doubt train got momentum to be out of control. Mostly, we're not dealing with Cleveland brown type pessimism. People get it. When a roster turns over at this rate, it's not immediate and takes time...
Which was the plan from the beginning...
See 6year deals...
Assuming the long term QB is on the roster in April 2018, improvement has to spike.

Yeah, this. Hurts more than the others though.

I thought Kyle Shanahan was a good coaching hire. WRONG.
I thought our DL was better than this. WRONG.
I thought Ward would be a little better at safety. WRONG.

This thread is a correction on that. Now nearly 1/3rd of the way through the season, what have you so far been proven wrong about?
I'll go first with six of them:
(1) I thought KS/Lynch overspent on an aging and average receiver in Garcon because they were placing too much emphasis on familiarity with Kyle and his system. I now think I'm wrong. So far Garcon is grading out as a top 5 WR in the NFL according to PFF, and like Anquan, he's one of those rare WRs for whom I think getting older doesn't affect their game as much (his game just isn't based on athletic ability as much as most WRs). I was very, very wrong on my evaluation of his signing, I think.
(2) I didn't expect Buckner to take a leap like he has. I thought he would remain a good but streaky player who played too high and was very inconsistent with his hand use and limited in his moves. I was very wrong on this one too. He has built incredibly well on last year and is a much improved version of what we've already seen.
(3) I thought Arik Armstead was going to be sneaky decent this year, kinda like Ray McDonald was in Fangio's system. Instead, he has totally disappeared. I think that's mostly scheme fit but he has been much worse than I thought he would be.
(4) I didn't think Robinson and Johnson would be THIS bad. I thought Robinson was overrated and Johnson was maybe a bit underrated, and that they'd both be average to slightly below average. Instead, they've both stunk.
(5) I thought Jerome would be one of those backups who would stick on the team forever, and maybe even with the ceiling of developing into a decent starter three or fours years from now. Instead, he was cut by week 5 and not even brought back to the practice squad.
(6) If before this season you told me that I'd think Tartt might be both the best and most versatile player in the 9ers secondary at this point in the year, I would have laughed in your face. He's still far from being a complete and consistent player, but he has taken a Buckner-sized leap in my evaluation of him (which is just less evident because he started so far below Buckner). I was wrong on this one too.
Good post. Mostly agree with everything. I didn't expect Tartt to be starting and looking like our best all-around safety.
I thought we would have a slightly better pass rush.

The DL is doing ok and it is way too early to call Shanahan a bad hire. Check the games, the Niners have kept them damn close.

I thought we'd be sneaky good as a team and nab 6 or 7 wins. A lot of that was built around Hoyer being serviceable which he's clearly not.
I also thought Robinson would thrive in this scheme.

I was wrong about Hyde and Bowman for sure. And way overestimated how many games we might win. But I always thought this was a throw away season.

Right
NaVorro Bowman wouldn't be 100%.
Carlos Hyde will do well in this system.
Eric Red will do well in this system.
We will look like we have a professional offense.
Wrong
Vance McDonald would do well in this system.
The defense would be the team's weakness.
Tank Carradine was done.
We would have won a game by now.
We would have had more losses that were blowouts.

Well - you may have noticed in my "How many games will they win this year post" LOL - I way over estimated their ability to WIN games. I thought Shanny would bring an NFL offense finally to the team - and DISCIPLINE. I way over-estimated the discipline part, and underestimated how easy it is for a team to run 2 good plays and kill themselves with mistakes on the third play. Wow. It goes to show how perfect a team has to consistently execute to WIN. They have been as competitive as I expected, but have killed themselves and lost games with all the little mistakes.
The big thing for me is - Can a team turn the corner on being mistake prone? Under the same regime? We saw Harbaugh turn a team around overnight by insisting on simple execution in the first year. My worry is the team gets used to operating this way under Shanny, and can't shake it.
The key will be if we see improvement by the end of the season.
