Improved Positions?

Really, pretty much every single position should show improvement. After reading about Chip Kelly's coaching style, and reading about Jim O'Niels bad high school coach mentality about the best players always on the field, assuming they never get tired, I wanted to barf.

I really felt Kelly would be an improvement over Tomsula, but is was more or less a lateral move. Even good players look bad with poor coaching, and great player can look awful in bad schemes. I may be over optimistic, but I think we have a legitimate NFL coaching staff, and that will make all the difference in the world.

I agree, I think all around we should be improved. We got new starters through out the roster and a new coaching staff. There's no where to go but up.

My thots exactly Golitta. We ARE better everywhere but we are best at HC/OC...which is so vastly improved i can't quantify it. Just way, way, better. Or how about professional as opposed to not? And our GM is way better to boot.

The only down side I see is in experience. TEs, RB, CB, ILB...but the players coming in have more talent overall than those lost, so I see the team having some great upside. Then when you consider coaching...huge upside on defense and likely quite a jump on offense...and not just because I love the WCO!

QB- Improved with Hoyer over Gabbert & Kap, not sure about Barkley as the #2 QB, hoping Beathard shows something or an unexpected vet gets cut, and we sign him as the #2 QB
RB- Improved with Shanahan's system, which will be better for Hyde, plus adding Joe Williams, Tim Hightower, Kapri Bibbs and Matt Breida to compete.
FB- Improved since we had no FB last year, and before that, while I loved Miller, I like a FB who came into the league playing FB in college, plus JUICE can do more than be a FB
WR- Improved with Garcon, Goodwin, Robinson, and also Kerley back, Taylor could be a sleeper.
TE- Tough to say. as there are 6 TEs on the roster, and only 3-4 will make it, obviously IMO, Kittle and Paulsen make it for sure, then it's down to McDonald, Celek, Bell and Hikutini(My favorite of the group)
C- Improved with Zuttah, plus Kilgore back along with Barnes to compete.
OG- Stayed the same pretty much, added Fusco, but not guaranteed a spot, and I like Beadles and Garnett anyway, it improves if Garnett steps up in year 2.
OT- Stayed the same for now, nice depth in Gilliam

DL- Improved by adding Thomas, Mitchell, Dumervil. DJ Jones is a sleeper for the future.
LB- Improved with Bowman back, plus I do like Malcolm Smith, and Foster at 31 is a steal, I like the depth with Coyle, Watson knowing the system, and Brooks if he ends up making the team.
CB- Improved with Brock gone, Robinson as #1, adding Witherspoon in the draft, and K'Wuan Williams in FA
FS- Improved by moving Ward to FS, backup wise, I like both Don Jones and Lorenzo Jerome(Can play Slot too)
SS- Improved by moving Reid to a better spot, we'll see how Tartt fits in.

Special Teams:

K- About the same with Gould, not better, not worse
P- Same as no other P besides Pinion on roster
LS- Same thing as P, only Nelson is here.

Overall, I'd say we improved big time in year 1, now wait for years 2 and 3 under Lynch, Shanahan, Peters, and Mayhew.

Nice, AB. And i sure hope we manage to keep Peters and Mayhew. I recall hearing Peters name being mentioned elsewhere, but we should really try to keep him here.

My only disagreement is OG, where I see a big improvement by strengthening OC they help depth at both OC and OG. TE will be an impossible decision and I hope they can keep them all until the last cutdown with hopes of a trade if a team out there finds a major need.

My favorite changes are the front seven on defense. They are much stronger that perhaps we won't see RBs gain major yards up the middle this year.

With KC firing Dorsey there could be some movement but it would be awkward for him to move after only a couple of months. Still, if he could get a GM job...perhaps the 9ers will move Lynch to President and...probably not.

Yup, dtg, that running up the middle krapt, is about to cease. Every team we played last yr got a belly full of it, but now...no mas. That is over and done.

There is no doubt the D is improved from last year. We had guys starting that may not be in the league this year.

I'm hoping that a few guys, DeFo and Trent have bust out years.

I just hope that when it gets to cut down time, that they hold onto younger guys that have potential, rather than vets that have topped out (aka Celek, Barnes).

This is about to be one of the best turn around seasons for this origination. Besides QB play, there are a lot of positions with players that really could offer that "wow" factor. Even the players that were on the roster last year, this year they will be playing new positions and getting some new roles.

From Navarro, Brooks, & Staley bringing that "been there done that" experience. There's even a few new FA's that been near or on that "stage" that's giving the Niners something to look forward to as well.

The these Draft picks and what they are about to run, compared to what we seen since I'll say 2012, offensively and 2013 defensively, with a "you know his name" type of GM, and a head Coach that had successful ties to the organization and that likes to listen to Bob Marley....it's a breath of fresh air. The whole package!

From losing in the Super Bowl in 2013 to Tomsula to Chip it's been terrible.

I blame it first on Roman, then Baalke, then Harbo, & Jed, you just should have sat in your office and sign checks man. Keeping this thread positive so I won't get into why about each.

2017! Everything new! I can't wait to see how they will use the TE's since there's supposedly so much talent there, then how well the RB's and WR's get down. I can't wait to see how they use this FB. Letting DWalker go was the beginning of the down fall of Harbo era. Even with this new blocking scheme with these guys who are a little bigger than normal for zone blocking, if that's what they running with the west coast offense, this is going to be fun to watch!

I was watching the replay of the 2013 SB last night, and Roman had a lot pulling plays in his offense. That was the only thing that I did love about his play calling. Our defense was killer! But had no rotation. We were designed to get 3-0. Then back to the side line. They got blown or lucky plays on them which were mainly the reason for getting torched on plays. Guys were tired.

This year that entire front seven can get some rotation going on. There's some quality guys there to set the trend that when the depth comes in, there's not a huge drop off. The new defensive line is going to be the most excited about our team I think this year, unless BH putting up 280-320yrds a game.

I believe you are right...forgot the change! Sad that they have made this change as it will be a free for all and very confusing when that cut date arrives...more so than normal. Teams like the niners will be looking for good players on waiver wires and it might be brutal competition!

And you know that John is already on the wire shopping guys he knows won't make the 53, trying to pry a 7th here or a 6th there , stating that we still aren't sure we are cutting so and so. This ought to look like a Persian rug bazaar on Sept 2nd, with guys peddling their wares , except these are cuts. ACtually i bet some of our guys rated below the 48 might just get discussed also. But it sure is going to be a compacted free for all. It will look probably more like a cattle auction than the last day of cuts.
