An upgrade? hahaha I always love a good laugh!

You're telling me that a guy who has been passed over for guys like Manziel and Mallett is an upgrade? We're talking about a guy with a lengthy injury history and someone who put up a goose egg/4 INT game in the playoffs. Hoyer is nothing more than a scheme fit and he'll either be benched or injured within a few starts.

Kap had his flaws but any talk of Hoyer being an upgrade is pathetic. I have faith Shanahan will find his QB, but Hoyer and Barkley are definitely not it. We'll see what Beathard's got down the road.

Entering camp, which BTW was the topic of this thread, our QBs are and will remain crap.

Bubba, if you don't think this is an upgrade over what we had last yr, then I wonder, did you not see any 9er games last yr? Kap had his flaws? Gab was a better QB than Hoyer? What exact planet were you on instead of watching the two worst QBs in 49ers history? Hoyer is a helluva upgrade over those two imitations. They were horrid.

Yup, a QB who has bounced around more teams than the Kardashians have NBA players is an upgrade? Hoyer is decent but don't let your disgust for Kap fool you, he has not talent and better numbers than Hoyer.

Kap is gone though, we've moved on, but how can you say this QB group isn't a Huge question mark? We've got two guys who should be career backups and another guy that's years away from starting. I see no promise with this group. nothing more than a couple guys who will tank this season and we're only given a chance because of familiarity.

And who's talking about Gabbert, bub?

The context of the question I posed was which position group is the biggest question mark with regards to who will be getting snaps at starter. Hoyer is the opening day QB. All of us, I mean all of us, know that he is a stop gap solution. He is not the long term player at QB. But he is the Day 1 starter in 2017. Kyle has repeatedly stated that. So that's why QB isn't an option in the poll. I get that we all want to be bad ass rebels and vote for the choice that isn't available. I, too, like to be a rebel.

Which position group is the biggest question mark because we aren't sure who the starter(s) are? Considering 4/5 of the OL will be decided via camp battle, I am surprised OL has gotten such little votes, but hey that's just imo.
Thanks for reminder, Thl. I got off point, altho i still stick with DBs, esp CBs. CBs and OLs are somewhat similar tho, as we pretty well know who we keep, but unknown is who plays where. In that those two are somewhat alike.

Didn't want the thread to turn into Kap vs Hoyer.

CBs are a question mark for sure. RR will enter the season as a starter for the first time in his career. Lots of potential but still very young. How do opposing WRs and OCs play him now that there's more film on him. The opposite CB is up in the air. DJ has never had many snaps and Witherspoon is an unknown rook.

Sure we have questions about who will start and how they will perform but with those groups we have up and coming talent and potential. We have guys on the roster that will fill those questions.

QB on the other hand is a huge question mark when you have those guys on your depth chart. They're a question mark now and will be throughout the season. Minimal talent with not much upside is what i see.

We're rebuilding som I'm optimistic this is the last year we see trash behind center.

I get what you're saying. If the question was what is the biggest need, or what position needs an upgrade, QB all the way. That's not what I was asking though. If I had asked "what position group will have the biggest camp battle?", maybe that would be clearer. Because there isn't much of a camp battle at QB for opening day 2017.

Over Kap......yup, that's exactly what we are telling you.

We should all be questioning why Hoyer is starter. I'd rather throw Beathard out there from day one.

All the camp battle should be interesting though. I just want to see these guy develop.

And you are the guys that think this team can win more than 4 games this year

If we can avoid major injuries we will be a 5-7 win team.

And you probably had this team winning 8 games last season!

What a joke!

We have improved and we were decimated by injuries last year. I had us winning 4-6 games last year which we probably would have without all of the injuries.

I know this response is off topic (and just for the record, I would say OL because of the uncertainty of who will play where)...but, when you consider that this team's biggest problem last year (by far) was stopping the run, then the team should show considerable improvement this year (barring major injuries of course). Many of the additions both through free agency and the draft were designed to shore up the run defense and I think that Shan / Lynch have done a fine job of doing that.

Also, Hoyer, although a career backup, had very good numbers at the end of last season and has done well with Shan in the past. I don't believe he is the long term answer either but he could surprise some of you. He is very accurate and loves the game and those are 2 qualities that the team's QBs in recent years have not had. The team has added good (not great) depth at many positions so when injuries do occur, they should be in a better place as far as replacements. Also, this coaching staff is the best one the team has had since Harbaugh left and that effect should not be underestimated. The team should be better fundamentally in all areas. I would say that depending on how the close games go, this team could win between 6 and 9 games.

Training camp will be fascinating on many levels....what vets will be cut, who will start and where and who will surprise. Let the games begin!

Cheers!

You're right.....Kap is the best QB to ever play.....I'm sure we'll see this when the second he is available to be signed by another team, there will be multiple teams throwing boatloads of cash to sign him.......oh wait.....guess that didn't happen now, did it.

Yeah we haven't had QBs this bad on our roster since the Ken Dorsey/ Tim Rattey years.

I'll take Kap over Hoyer any day.

I guarantee he doesn't last as starter. Hurt or bench for sure.

I think there will be a big QB camp battle. All these QB's haven't worked with the personnel on the team. In other words, maybe they've worked with Kyle in the past and know his system, but that doesn't mean Hoyer is going to be the number 1 *for sure.* I think it's going to be a battle between Hoyer and Barkly for number 1 and barkly and CJ for number 2. If you had a team where the QB has been here starting for the last 3 years and the coach has been here for 3 years and placed him as a starter, then I think you can say Hoyer is a lock. But that's not the case this season.
