8?
They bumped it up a couple players recently...want to say 9 or 10 now.

Yup, here you go: http://www.behindthesteelcurtain.com/nfl-pittsburgh-steelers-news/2016/9/3/12748522/2016-nfl-practice-squad-breakdown-rules-size-eligibility-salary

Practice squad basics:

  • Each NFL team can have up to 10 players on its practice squad.
  • Practice squad players ... practice with the team. They do not play in games. Not all players are eligible to be signed to NFL practice squads (see new rules on eligibility above).
  • Practice squad players are paid per week and can be released at any point during the season.
  • Practice squad players are free to sign with other NFL teams, but they have to be signed to the 53-man active roster of the acquiring team. A practice squad player cannot be signed to another practice squad unless he is first released.
  • A practice squad player can not sign with his team's upcoming opponent, unless he does so six days before the upcoming game or 10 days if his team is currently on a bye week.
  • If a practice squad player is signed to the active roster, he will receive a minimum of three weekly paychecks, even if he is released before spending three weeks with the new team.
  • In order to be signed to a practice squad after being released, a player must first clear waivers, and is subject to waiver claims by other teams

If it is 9 or 10, then we should be able to keep most of these key UDFA's we've been picking up.
Here's mine:

Practice Squad: --- 10
QB Nick Mullens (UDFA)
T Darrell Williams Jr. (UDFA)
G J.P. Flynn (UDFA)
FB Tyler McCloskey (UDFA)
TE Cole Hikutini (UDFA)
YWR/KR Victor Bolden (UDFA)
ZWR Kendrick Bourne (UDFA)
ZWR B.J. Johnson (UDFA)
ER/SAM Jimmie Gilbert (UDFA)
ER Noble Nwachuckwu (UDFA)
Nice list Command, I mostly agree with you, although you think Williams makes it over Magnuson, or is Magnuson on your 53? Also I see Breida or Bibbs on the PS, which ever one doesn't win the 4th RB spot. Not sure which one of yours I take off? Perhaps one of your WR's, or maybe McCloskey, because Hikutini is a versatile OW in the making. Other than that, I like your list, perhaps Mullens is gone as well, because we already would have 3 QB's on the 53 man?

Magnuson was rated #164 overall by MadDog. This dude has talent...can play T and G. 6'6" 305, versatile, zone blocking OL experience, cut-blocks, reach blocks, connects with moving targets well, etc. The dude fits Kyle's OL scheme and versatility needs. ShanaLynch are looking to build a future...with younger players being the focus. Zane Beadles is beaten out by him...another 30+ year old player axed. Hightower could be another. Brooks, Dawson, Dorsey, etc. Purging the age, going with youth but keeping just enough middle-aged veterans to lay the foundation.

Personally I'd like to see Reid+Brooks traded away for what ever we can get. Neither is a long term answer here, and we could roll over more cap space for next season, and also give playing time to more kids.
Command how come Colbert isn't on either of your 53, or your PS?

I think Cole makes the roster.
