If we cut Bolden that's a mistake. A big one. He's gonna be a special return man, I guarantee that.

I agree and on a rebuilding team why not take a chance on an udfa for a year and see what happens, 2 return tds in 4 games with shared snaps, I don't think it's a coincidence. The man can play

Bingo.
This looks like a solid prediction IMO

Agree with most of this:

+1 QB: Think Barkley makes it because Hoyer can't stay healthy and Beathard has looked awful as a passer these last two weeks. (Hoyer, Barkley, Beathard)

+0 RB: Agreed, although I still think Hightower has a shot over Mostert, just becaus of Shanahan and the way he has talked about HIghtower as a player and in practice. (Hyde, Breida, Williams, Mostert)

+0 FB: Obviously (Juice)

+0 WR: Burbridge or Bourne over Bolden, as they both provide more as WRs and I think Mostert makes it as the KR and Taylor is the PR. (Garcon, Goodwin, Taylor, Kerley, Burbridge/Bourne)

+0 TE: Agreed with this three (Kittle, Celek, Paulsen)

+0 OL: Agreed with the number, but think Gilliam probably over Theus, but they both suck (Staley, Brown, Gilliam, Kilgore, Magnuson, Fusco, Beadles, Tomlinson)

+0 ILB: Yep (Bowman, Foster, Armstrong, Coyle

+0 OLB: Yep (Harold, Dumervil, Watson, Lynch

+0 DL: If it's -1 Dial gets cut but if he doesn't it means it could still go -1 if D.J. Jones gets cut and sent to the PS (Buckner. Armstead, Carradine, Thomas, Mitchell, Jones)

-1 CB: Asa Jackson gets cut because keeping a fifth safety in Colbert allows for better special teams play and positional flexibility at both safety spots and CB (Robinson, Johnson, Williams, Reaser, Witherspoon, with Colbert maybe even active above Witherspoon on the 46)

+0 Safety: Reid, Ward, Tartt, Jerome, Colbert

K/P/LS: Well, yeah.

Things I'm not feeling too certain about, not in order:

1) Hightower or Mostert (my head says Hightower but I think Mostert as the KR with Williams not on the 46 makes a ton of sense too).
2) Dial sticking on the roster.
3) Theus or Gilliam (literally don't care, but no idea on this one).
Kyle Shanahan says he knows who the backup QB will be and he's not sure if he'll keep 3 QBs. Sounds like Matt Barkley is out.

The way he explained Barkley not playing last night is that they already know exactly what they have in Barkley, but still need to evaluate what they had in Beathard and Mullens.

IMO Beathard and Mullens both failed their tests last night (the test for Mullens was if they would feel okay rolling with 2 QBs and elevating Mullens from the PS if Hoyer goes down, and I don't think he passed that. He'll still get the PS but as the default #3, nah).
Nobody, nobody, expected the improvements we have made to date. Hats off to kyle and john for a great job well done. We went from needing 16-18 starters, to actually having a professional team on the field. I had no idea that they could improve this much this quickly.

Two things led to this. First was the determination NOT to blow a wad of $$ and draft picks on the 6-8 top poor choices at QB. Kyle picks HOyer to run the O this yr and maybe next., with a decent backup. Then he moves up a few slots to take the one and only QB he liked, a sleeper for everyone else...CJ.

2nd thing is delaying #1 WR this yr but instead getting rid of our trash at WR and adding speed and talent all around. Those two things helped most in making the remarkable advances we did make.

Next yr, CB, #1 WR, and we'll know if we need a FR QB or not. IF not we are in good shape. IF we do, then we are well placed to land cuzins if we still like him. . A+ job by kyle and john. OL almost got settled then injury to Josh, and now we have just solidified it some more. For a change, we will have a functional OL for first time in 3-4 yrs.

I agree 100% with Biderman here. Wouldn't change anything.

I like the direction too, but as fans almost all of us were also making the best of Tomsula and Kelly at this time for the last two years too.

Not a lot you can tell from preseason when teams aren't scheming against each other and it's almost entirely backups on backups.

It's a good one indeed.

I can see the case for a couple of these.

I can see Dial and Celek, maybe Asa ,but no way Bolden doesn't make it, and Lynch should also. Gilliam being cut would be a waste of money.

Same...naturally.

i hope he does not keep three quarterbacks. also the fullback can play tight end which eliminates the want for an extra tight end. right there you have two openings for positions of need like inside linebacker. another offensive lineman a safety or a cornerback. all of which are needed. we are not so good that we can afford the luxury of a guy like boldin who can only return punts, in my opinion. that is very short sighted and ignores the other holes that need help
