The front office and Shanahan are looking at 2018 and beyond when it comes to the roster. Ahmad Brooks was one of the best 53 but why cut a young player to keep Brooks around for 2017. I love the long term thinking they're using right now. For example I think the 49ers goal is to have a offensive line of LT Staley,LG Garnett,C Kilgore,RG Tomlinson and RT Brown. Another example is I wanted no part of Joe Haden for 3 years and 27 million and I think the front office felt the same way. His best football is long gone and he only keeps the young guys off the field. I'm going into this season to watch the young guys grow and I could care less about the record. My only regret is not having a long term answer at QB(assuming Beathard isn't the answer) to learn Shanahan's system this season.

No question!

Who is the backup OG then? Tomlinson and Fusco start? But who backs up them, I have little to no confidence in either Barnes or a rook like Magnuson, so I'd keep Beadles for 1 more yr, then move on next year.

I like the idea of Garnett/Tomlinson as our Guards in the future.

I agree, 2.4 million vs around 70+ million in cap space. Beadle's salary is a minor factor in him making the team or not. And the youth movement of Garnett/Tomlinson is here. I like that youth move.

Agreed, we have around $70M right now even after Tomlinson deal, so keeping Beadles won't hurt this team. I would rather have him as the backup OG and C than Barnes or Magnuson. I do likethe idea of Magnuson on the 53, just not the gameday 46.

Same here!

I'd keep the following 8 OL for the opener, with Garnett on IR/DFI(even though you don't need to designate anyone anymore)

Staley-Beadles-Kilgore-Fusco-Brown, with Beadles,Gilliam,& Magnuson as backups, with Beadles backup C/OG and Gilliam Swing T on gamedays on the active 46.

Tomlinson?

I'm starting to think about Celek again too.

lol brain fart I had Beadles listed twice derp moment for me. lol

Practice Squad:

QB 1 Nick Mullens, WR 6 Kendrick Bourne, WR 13 Aaron Burbridge, TE 46 Cole Hikutini, OG 78 Norman Price, OT 75 Darrell Williams Jr., DT 66 Noble Nwachukwu, OLB 47 Austin Calitro, CB 23 Will Redmond, FS 40 Vinnie Sunseri

Week 1 Inactives: C/OG Magnuson, DE Lynch, DT Marks, NT Jones, OLB Taumoepenu, CB Reaser, FS Colbert
I could see them having Marks active and someone like Mostert inactive if they feel Bolden Jr and Taylor are enough as return men.

Key Cuts/Trades:

QB Matt Barkley- Cut(Could be brought back later if needed)
RB Tim Hightower- Cut(Could be brought back later if needed)
TE Garrett Celek- Traded for a 7th Round pick, if not, then cut
DL Quinton Dial- Traded for a 5th Round pick, maybe Denver, or a 3-4 team who needs a solid DL, I like Dial, but there seems to be no perfect or right fit for him in Saleh's defense

Notes:

I kept D.J. Jones, Pita Taumoepenu, and Adrian Colbert due the fact I don't see them passing waivers, I know it's different this year, but teams will still have 24 hours to make claims.

I can see them cutting Reaser if a better play is available on waivers, or a vested veteran, good thing about being 2-14, and picking #2, we hold the 2nd spot for waivers, so unless the Browns want someone, he's basically ours.

Only issue I have is, who gets cut and brought back after Saturday so Garnett can do on IR and return later in the season? Marks might be a choice, as he isn't subjected to waivers a vested veteran.

Returning Players from 2016:

1. RB Hyde
2. RB Mostert
3. WR Kerley
4. C Kilgore
5. OG Beadles
6. OT Staley
7. OT Brown
8. DE Armstead
9. DE Carradine

Keep Blair and drop Pita

Oh here's my latest projection.

Updated Projected 53-Man Roster

OK Marks with a sack tonight, looking much better condition wise. But Blair didn't suit up. I don't see Celek yet either. Bolden is a lock. Beathard looking 1 step forward, 1 back. Ray-Ray and Coyle looking like crap. Don Jones nicked up... awesome gunner. He and Mostert will be huge for us. Colbert nice play. Any other thoughts and notes you're weighing? OL?

Tough one...Pita is getting pressure. We probably could get him on the PS. Hmmm.
Bolden Jr.!!! Welcome to the 53!!!

Tough one, I think Pita would get claimed with the way he's playing, same for Mostert, Bolden, Breida, Jerome and others.

Yeah I'm not sold on Celek on the 53, rather have 2, with JUICE as the 3rd. Bolden Jr. made this team as a KR/PR. Beathard better be the #2 QB.

Ray-Ray and Coyle I'm ok with, as long as Coyle doesn't have to play defense. Armstrong will be ok. Don Jones makes this team, with Watson and Mostert as key ST guys.

I like Colbert's potential, can play CB and FS, doubt he makes it to the PS, but you never know 1100 players will be let go by Saturday at 4 PM EST, mad dash to claim someone.
Also Logan Paulsen impressed me with his hands in the 1st half, made a nice catch ,and got a 1st down I believe.

Like I said after the draft, guys like Robinson, Paulsen, Coyle, and Watrson who know the systems, were making this team, as was Don Jones. Excited for next Sunday.

Yeah, I'm probably overthinking things. Thanks dude.

Damn you, copying me lol.

Yeah one more note on the Garnett thing, the player cut has to be a vested veteran or we take a chance of losing someone by placing someone on waivers as vested veterans don't go through waivers.

The one's i see, Sen'Derrick Marks, or Don Jones, or they go only 4 CBs, then add another CB that they may like who got cut, or dare i say Asa Jackson as he's a vested veteran.
