Kittle isn't past his prime.
Even if he isn't missing time, he is playing injured. It's time to look to the future in replacing Kittle, Bosa and Williams. Get young talent in the lineup.

I'd say his best years are behind him.

Need to draft a legit TE in the next draft to start taking the reins away from Hamstring.

Yeah last year was one of his best seasons and started this year really strong til the injury. Looked like he was going to be a focal point in the redzone finally.

Okay so what do we draft? A legit TE, a legit tackle to replace Trent, a legit RB to replace CMC, a center or a younger edge rusher? Wer seem to want all of thise positions but there aren't a lot of really good ones at each of these spots.

And we should keep in mind that the Kittle was a 5th round pick, Trent and CMC were trades.

To me in the draft you take the best player available in early rounds and fill the holes on the roster from your depth, free agency, and through trades. This year we're seeing Ben Bartch, Dee Winters, and Kalia Davis stepping up after they were afterthoughts.

Ideally the player you like best for the position you need most is on the board when you get on the clock in the draft ... but it seldom works that way.

This year alone the 49ers added 3 1 tech DTs, when their plan was probably to get 1 ... but it's the way the chips fell. Now, with Collins, West, Jefferson, and Anderson they have too many of those guys. They hope to train them to be able to be 3/4 technique DTs, and that might work. But in the meantime they have an oddly built roster. This is how things work.
We need him. Badly.

Will he even be back for Week 6? I have a feeling it will be longer

Yep.

Not sure we can afford to have that kind of salary just to have an extra cheerleader on the sidelines.

Thats why you don't wait till you're desperate, they should've been addressing these issues in recent drafts but instead they simply ignored it.

Here is the problem with the Niners. Under Walsh, Walsh let aging players go in order to move up newer, more robust players. Was it hard to see Montana, Rice and others go? Yep. But they went because they were past their prime and the Niners to stay competitive year in and year out had to adjust and bring in new players. That is why this team is in for a very long year. They have no depth and they relied on their stars for far too long. Retool? Nope, they need a rebuild. Aging stars cannot take the rigor of the NFL and as such they cannot be expected to play week in and week out. That is the Niner's case right now. Are we comfortable with the depth here to carry them? I'm not. Super Bowl? Super Bowl? I just hope they can get to 10-6 and not 9-5 or 8-8. Even if they get into the playoffs, I expect them to be a one and done team this year. That is what happens when you don't pull the trigger even if star players have a few years left in them, its not at the level where they will win a Super Bowl. That window I believe is closed to them now and will be until they retool and not with the current set of stars. Kittle brittle? Yep and so are a few others including their QB on this team.

Walsh had nothing to do with Montana's trade to KC for a 1st rd pick or Rice's release for salary cap reasons.
