I'm with you dude. I think we've been bad for so long people have become happy with average players. No reason to not upgrade -- even if you like the guys currently in position.

WR and TE are not a priority. Depending on what they can do in FA/Draft, they have some solid optons at WR and TE; no one spectacular, but they can fill the job. Plus, Kittle, Goodwin, and others, this is their first year in this new system. Let's see what they can do in 2018 before they decide to upgrade. They need to prioritize protecting Jimmy G, then continue to build that defense. WR and TE can hold off in later years.

I have no issue bringing in an elite TE prospect. Having two guys play at starter level is never a problem. I am just arguing that Kittle has showed enough promise to warrant further consideration as a starter. I wouldn't mind investing in a FA or draft pick with potential.

You forget that this is the zone and some folks expect all players to play like All-Pros in year one and if they don't they're either busts or "back-ups" at best. (Not saying okd is doing this, but there are some here who are) See also: fans' comments about Beathard (despite him doing far better than MANY top-flight QB's have done in their rookie years).

Kittle is a highly athletic, high ceiling player who we should definitely give a chance to develop. I'm never opposed to adding weapons, it's all about BPA in the draft, but I see no reason to give up and proclaim GK as a #2 caliber TE at best in a dinged-up rookie year. That's just plain silly, considering his production this season, compared to the other rookies in this class.

Kittle (5th rounder): 39 catches, 415 yards, 2 TD
David Njoku (1st rounder): 30 catches, 348 yards, 4 TD
OJ Howard (1st rounder): 26 catches, 432 yards, 6 TD
Evan Engram (1st rounder): 64 catches, 722 yards, 6 TD (although he's being used more as a WR with Beckham and Marshall out).

I don't think Kittle has been utilized quite as much in the redzone since he's split time with Celek in that regard, but I think the more he grows, the more he'll get looks there.

I get the underlying point people are making in support of Kittle. Like most of you, I also think he's okay. And, as you mentioned, I don't expect every player to be an all-pro. But I also expect to improve upon areas of need. Red zone receiving is a massive area of need. Reliable pass catchers are a major area of need. Kittle brings nothing to those areas than any other average TE in the league would.

Kittle has a catch rate of 68% right now. He is no more of a red zone threat than anybody else on this roster. Can he get better? Sure, anybody can.

But George Kittle has not shown a single thing this year that would make a GM avoid bringing somebody in take over the #1 TE spot. We can easily get better at TE.

Yall forget hes in the first year of the system? Also playing with Hoyer, CJ(got a lil more productive compared to Hoyer) and now Jimmy who seems to be utilising him just jazzy and looking good?

Ive asked before.. Has he dropped a pass since Jimmy has got here? Dont think he has... Been looking great.

Flex this dude out inside the goal line and watch him beat his man on an island/in stride while ball is snapped in motion.

Seems like every year we have a few draftniks with a draft crush wanting Niners to get a TE.

lol Even when we had VD and Delanie. Tell us how lacking and bad the TE position is so we must get one.

No it's not. He doesn't need to be a pro bowler. Cut it out. I never said that. I said he is easily improved upon. I also said it's not a priority, but can be easily upgraded should the right opportunity in the draft or FA present itself. Kittle is just okay, that's it. Just okay.

This is going to be "Our" version of Gronk and Wes Welker. Not saying either guy will be as good as them, but I think they will be very solid and VALUABLE to Jimmy G and have good long careers here. I'm really excited about Kittle in particular. I think he will be 60-70 catch 8TD kind of player.

He's a rookie TE who's in the top 3 of all the guys drafted at his position in production. Physically his combine numbers are superior to most NFL TE's. He's good enough now to be considered the future next year. I bet KS rides the same TE group we used this year into next and makes moves after we see what we have from a more developed Hikutini, Kittle and Celektime.

I think Kittle and Celek stick, but there will definitely be a new #3. Paulsen and Hikutini just won't cut it. I think they'll go after a great blocking tight end to take Paulsens spot

I look at this as one of those things where we can upgrade over Kittle, but do we absolutely need to upgrade that position right now? Like right now, right now? 2018 FA period and 2018 draft right now? I'd say no. We can live. Get the interior O-line fixed. Get another receiver. For God sakes, please get another LB besides Reuben Foster (weakest group after OL). Get a pass rusher. Get at least one corner. To me, those are reasonable goals that we should be looking to meet in 2018. I consider looking for safeties, running backs, tight ends, and any DL that isn't playing RDE/Elephant/LEO a 2019 problem.
