that's true

Getting rid of Vance tells me hes gonna have a lot of opportunities to come along and try to make the most of them.

I think the 49ers made a big mistake. If Brittle had hamstring issues since TC, then trading away their best TE on the roster, albeit a slightly below average TE, for a throw away draft pick was a mistake.

Vance had kind of a dumb contract though so getting ridding of that overinvestment was a plus in and of itself. As for who's next up, we have Celek who has only outperformed Vance for the last 2 or 3 years when healthy. Plus it's a rebuilding year so who cares if we have a decent TE starting every week or not?

I agree that this year will be throw away year for the 49ers and I also agree that the contract was stupid. However, he was their best TE and Brittle should have been brought in slowly.

But they didn't. They ate all the guaranteed money. It cost them more to get rid of him than it saved them.

Now Pittsburgh owes him $2 million and they can cut him before April and not owe him another dime.
It's like the Panthers wouldn't know who to prepare for at TE, and neither do the Niners

Lol. With the name Kittle and a history of injury issues it was only a matter of time before that nickname hit.
He's our new Ailington

Yeah but it's not something that's gonna cut into our salary cap in future seasons. So in the end the contract didn't hurt us any

Has to be a longer term thing, a more veteren player with an injury history for that. Jimmie Ward is probably there, but not Kittle yet.

Regarding McDonald, I am surprised anyone is upset with this trade. Bad contract with even worse hands. And a signing by a previous GM and regime. They are not expected to win anything this year, so wouldn't you want your younger players facing the live bullets this year? Just that they got what they got in trade should tell us everything we want to know about his value. I am glad they could keep a younger player with upside rather than a vet that was not in the plans for the future.

With that attitude , why sign any vets at all this past off season then?
