Oh boy. 49ers fan base going to be in for a big surprise when we can't run the damn ball and can't sack the QB.

Especially when we will have 2 real good WR's hardly see the field because we are loaded at that spot, our RB's can't run with any power and we have a starting caliber LB who won't see the field very often either.

Maybe fans that don't understand that this isn't a SB year. No surprise to anyone paying attention. Although I am still not sure we won't be able to have an ok running game when McKinnon and Breda get back.

Superbowl year? With how we acquired players in the offseason, playoffs are not likely.

I think the same. I have not been on the hype train thinking we were headed to the playoffs. Hope is one thing, belief is another.

Yeah, there were a number of directions we could have gone, including drafting MM and retaining Brown. I'm hopeful it was the right move too but that's still ultimately up to both Brown and Mike. I'm fairly confident it's going to work our great for both guys/teams.

If they were set on replacing Brown then McGlinchey was pretty much the only option. You look at every other tackle and outside of Wynn, whom some saw best suited to play guard and it was just one project after another.

Lots of options to choose from if you needed a starter at tackle in 2 to 3 years. When it came to Day 1 starters it was McGlinchey or Wynn.

Yeah and even Wynn was a bit suspect too...both MM and Wynn working at RT to start their careers.

But to your point, it was decided in advance they were moving on even working a pre draft deal if we got our guy (and we did).

There was a similar sentiment in 2011 when they signed Carlos Rogers, Whitner, Goodwin... so its not out of the realm of possibility. If you compared that 2011 team in preseason to this preseason team, you'd put higher odds on this team making the playoffs than the one that eventually went 13-3. I dont think they will finish with that record but its just another reason to put little stock in preseason or the offseason till the final product hits the field with a gameplan. I'm more in the 10-6 ballpark, the offense is gonna carry allot of the load but with JG's 3rd down % defenses are gonna be exhausted in the second half and give a couple wins away.

I didn't see the youngest HC in NFL history doing what he did. But the Rams had an awful lot of pieces from years of building. They needed a coach who didn't run a HS offense.

They spent most of an entire draft on their O-line a few years back. I believe they still have two starters and a backup out of that. They had Gurley. They had Goff. Check out my old posts; I was alone on an island defending Goff two years ago. We know their D, and one thing Jeff Fisher did well was develop excellent ST.

Yeah, the Rams added FA pieces like Sammy Watkins. But the Rams have been years in the making.

The Rams filled a bunch of holes and on top of that, one of the best players in the league was injured for them the year before. Like I said, we don't have very many top 10 players if you measure by resume. Rams did but they didn't keep adding backups to those guys, they filled in the holes with legit players.

Re; Trent Brown

I think what did it for Kyle is when TB refused to play through his shoulder injury and decided to pull the sandy vagina routine and wuss out...

LOL. That may be true but he did play the Chicago game with one arm and did more damage that then required surgery. He's salty for sure and that's probably the source of contention.

I think the organization made the right move in replacing brown with mcglinchey

I think we should have gone McG, Edge Rusher, and Guard, then trade back into the 3rd for a RB. That would have filled up all our holes. Then next year, if we really want to dominate, add another edge rusher, MLB, and WR.

That would have certainly been a viable route.

As good as McG, Pettis, and Warner look, those positions were not a dire need. All we did was double park at those positions while we already had solutions there that would have given us a couple years of play.

Our small RB's aren't looking very promising either.

I watched Brown closely the first half of the Pat's eagles game. He was not run blocking well at all. He looked like he was still learning his assignments as much as anything else but he looks as slow as you would expect a nearly 400 pound person. I felt bad for him when they ran a screen to his side, it was not good. Eric Crocker straight roasted him on Twitter after the game.

That makes sense, dang. When I read an article saying T. Brown ballooned to 380+ lbs, I was out of my mind. I mean what kind of pro athlete endangers their *life* by balooning to 380+? That' heart attack obese if you ask me. Glad we moved on from T. Brown. Loved him as a player and as a 49er but clearly not only was he not a fit for Kyle's offense but wow, talk about discipline problems with weight. T. Brown is going to drive Bellicheat crazy with that weight issue of his. I know Blubber Paris did that to Walsh *every* year Blubber was on the team.

The problem with that plan is you draft players, not positions. You don't sign a position to a contract, you sign a player.

Drafting a position just because its a need is Baalke level stuff.

Yeah, every year in preseason Walsh would fry Bubba in the press over his weight, and every year Bubba would start at T on his way to 3 Rings.

I would agree with you if this were 25 or so years ago. In this era, a rebuild can happen in 2 years. If it takes 4 years, then we have problems because our players from 4 years ago will be too old or near the end of their contract and we must decide to reup them on a team where they have not helped get into the playoffs.

Depending on the state of your franchise when commencing said rebuild and if things in the draft and FA fall your way, sure.

This, the rebuild needed when Harbaugh got hired was more due to bad coaching in the past.... I mean, that team once went 8-8 with Singletary and his monolithic coaching staff and started off with two picks in the first round. The current rebuild was not only coaching staff but an entire rebuild of a depleted roster, similar to the post-Garcia days.

Once they paid JG the tone turned into more of a "win now" mode but it looks as if the FO is unwilling to compromise their future for the sake of pass rush this year. Basically still looking at it as year 2 of the rebuild. Get JG his protectors, add some weapons and put the new god-king in the best position this year to maximize their return. The pass rush is gonna suck but if the trade off is a higher % that JG stays healthy with his new weapons then it makes sense. Then go hard at the available FA's or draftees next offseason to address the passrush.

AGree. It sure looks like a 2 year rebuild. I do know 1980 with walsh was a frustrating one for me. We had a decent offense but no defense and it just was one of those seasons where typically you'd lose the game on the last drive or in the fourth quarter because the defense sucked and couldn't stop anybody. 1981 Walsh solved that problem. This season *looks* like 1980 all over again this year unless we trade for an elite edge rusher or Pita and Attaochu come out of nowhere and become decent edge rushers.
