OMG...this whole thing about Lynch's radio interview is....molehill + WZ = Mt. Everest
Everyone is taking his comments out of context...We know that when Kyle was showing film to Lynch and the scouts about what he looks for in a QB, there were various clips from JG playing with the Patriots...we also know that at last year's combine, Kyle spoke with Belichik and was told that JG was not available, so the 49ers moved on from that idea and throughout last year's off-season and into the season, all the speculation was about Cousins leaving Washington after the 2017 season with the 49ers being a prime destination because of Kyle...we also know that just before the deadline, apparently after telling the Browns again that JG was not available, Belichik called Kyle directly and offered JG for the 49ers 2nd round pick and it took Kyle and Lynch 10 minutes to call back and accept the offer.
So, what exactly in all of that indicates that Kyle did not want JG? It's no wonder that Kyle's "master plan" as Lynch put it would be to bring Cousins here given that he was told directly at last year's combine that JG was not available. At that point, Kyle's plan has to be to bring Cousins in if/when he was allowed to leave Washington and I'm sure that was the case right up until Kyle's phone rings and he sees its coming from Massachusetts right before the trade deadline. If it was his master plan, he sure did abandon it quickly (10 minutes) once he was told JG was available.
It also makes sense that he might be in "mourning" immediately afterward because he has a personal relationship with Cousins and you know he had been thinking a lot about working with him in 2018. Think if you were planning to work with a good friend and then got an unexpected better offer to work with someone you thought was very talented but never expected to get to work. You would have to take it but would still feel bad about not working with your friend.
And, of course, JG had to prove it. Everyone on the team has to prove it to the coaches and especially in a contract year.
Everyone needs to relax and let the mountain shrink back to molehill size.

Do you ever hear the patriots say why they went a certain direction?
And there are good reasons for this.
Lynch could have told the story about Kyle not being sold on Jimmy till he seen him play without saying a word about Kirk.Originally posted by jeepzilla:Originally posted by 9erReign:Originally posted by English:Originally posted by susweel:Shanny is gonna tire of John Lynch's loose lips and corny ass personality. The HC is going to fire the GM? Really? Jed is going to judge both of them by results, not by random conversational remarks. And you can take this one to the bank.
Then why did Jed fire Harbaugh if he only judged him on results and not conversational remarks?![]()

I wonder how long jed will give him to win a championship.
Over/under 4 years.
I think I've read something showing a lot of new head coaches have won and/or been in a SB in first 3 years or less of coaching??
And when we get to a SB, someone needs to tell Kyle to have us wear the white jerseys.
(I don't know how this is decided)
Teams that wear white jerseys are 29-18 in Super Bowl games. (White jerseys don't necessarily mean "away") Most recently, the teams wearing the white jerseys have won eight of the last nine Super Bowls.

Kyle wanted Cousins at the time because of the simple fact that between Jimmy and Cousins, both of which he like and wanted, Cousins has more games under him to evaluate than Jimmy's 2 starts for the Pats. Which makes Cousins a safer choice.
There's no way for anyone to know the degree of good Jimmy is, at the time, outside of Belichick and maybe a few people in NE. Those five games open everyone's eyes. No way Kyle pick Cousins over Jimmy after the 5 games.
f**k Cousins. I was never on that train. Still isn't. Glad he isn't a Niner. If Kyle got Cousins, it would be just tolerable for me.

Guess this answers the question on which is better to have, a better offense or a better defense.
Better regular-season offense or defense?
The team with the better regular-season offense (yards per game) is 22-25 in the Super Bowl, while the team with the better regular-season defense is 30-17.
There have been 21 Super Bowls in which one team had the better offense and better defense; those teams are 13-8. There have been 26 Super Bowls in which one team had the better offense, but the other team had a better defense. In those games, the team with the better defense is 17-9.
This season, the Broncos finished the regular season with the NFL's best offense, while the Seattle Seahawks had the NFL's best defense.

Seem to recall talk of trading Jimmy in the weeks after he was signed, albeit from Lynch, but Jimmy was not a sure thing until he busted out 5 wins and proved it.
Just saying I hope he still feels like he's got stuff to prove, and plays hungry to do so.
Jimmy has greater potential then Cousins ever could hope to have. "People mention Jimmy should play like he has something to prove to Shanahan this season like he did last season." I really couldn't see a scenario last season where Jimmy went out to prove to Shanahan that he can play QB and certainly won't this season. I'm sure a part on Jimmy knew and knows that Shanahan, Lynch, and the 49ers organization needs him more then he needs them. Jimmy Garoppolo was Bill Belichick's personal groomed successor to the G.O.A.T. Tom Brady. Played for the greatest organization in the history of the NFL. He was so beloved by Belichick, (who isn't known to give a damn about most), that his trade caused dissension among the 3 most powerful people in the NFL in Brady, Belichick, and Kraft. Yeah it's a damn shame that this is going to get blown up by some local and national reporters because a wet behind the ears GM can't keep his damn trap shut.
I have no doubt that Lynch and Shanahan have already talked to Jimmy and attempted to smooth things over. I'm sure within the 49ers headquarters they already are preparing answers to reporters questions that will be asked and written about, maybe even during the season IF/WHEN Jimmy has a bad game. Ultimately Garoppolo probably doesn't give a damn about what Kyle thought and what big mouth Lynch has to say. He will go out and dominate this season like the top level QB he is, and it won't be because he has something to prove to Kyle Shanahan. It's Lynch and Kyle that has to do the proving more then Jimmy.

That trade stuff was just him trying to get the media to stop asking when he's gonna start. They never had any thoughts of trading him. Much to the dismay of that little c**t Grant Cohn.

That was all media BS. They weren't going to trade Jimmy. The 49ers asked about Garoppolo at last years combine right after the new regime was hired, but were told to back off. Then they traded an early 2nd for him midseason instead of just waiting for Cousins. The 49ers "not wanting" Garoppolo at any point is an idiotic theory.

He fired Harbaugh because he was driving everyone in the building crazy, he's a good coach but also bats**t crazy. His schtick wears off after awhile, and seeing as how we went 8-8 in his last year it was an easy call.

You still haven't been banned from the Zone, so clearly those things don't necessarily lead to an early exit.

Please don't put Jim's record out there to justify anything.
We know the s**t Baalke was bringing thru the doors.
Plain and simple, Jed's ego got the best of him.
Happens to a lot of spoon fed kids.
No need to spin it any other way.
Let's just accept it for what it is and move on.
