One of the more interesting parts of the Pats ESPN story? Shanahan went to Belichick learn from the Super Bowl loss. Really shows the character of both men. https://t.co/gRzUs1Cc5E pic.twitter.com/8spu7CXq9m

Kyle Shanahan met with Bill Belichick to learn from his Super Bowl mistakes
"At the combine this past February, Kyle, weeks into the 49ers job after being the offensive coordinator for the Falcons, met with Belichick for hours to learn from his team's humiliating Super Bowl loss," Wickersham wrote.
Shanahan received a lot of criticism for his aggressive play calling during the second half of the game when a more conservative approach almost certainly would have ensured an Atlanta Falcons victory over New England.
"We played that game how we played the entire year and I thought I called plays in that game the way I had the entire year," Shanahan said back in February of last year. "Doesn't mean I'm always right ... I can deal with it because I can look at myself in the mirror and know I did what I thought was right at the time and that was the most important thing to me."

I love it to. The best scouting is self scouting. I've said numerous time that I don't kill Kyle for the super bowl because I can see or surmise where he was coming from. I'm sure he was in contact with Quinn and the discussion was asked "you want me to kill it or play like we've played all year?" Teams should always play to their DNA and do what got them to that game.
As for the situation at the 20 with about 4 to go, I believe their was a 3 play sequence that was gonna involve 2 runs and 1 pass. A first down there basically wins the game as you secure an opportunity to take a 2 score lead, make them use all their TOs and get the clock under 2 minutes. At that point, I'd be certain that their defense could have held that lead. Now first down of that sequence, set in motion the events that led to the ultimate outcome. You lose yardage on a run, now the best way to secure that first down is a pass to set up a makeable 3rd. The sack now throws this whole sceniro off and we know what happened. If he throws it away, I believe they would have just ran the ball to take the FG because a third down conversion off 3-11 is unlikely. The sack however forces them in a situation where they now need yards to get a comfortable FG attempt.
To me it's just not as simple as 3 runs, a FG attempt and leaving them with 3:30-3:40 on the clock. He trusted his mvp QB to know that you couldn't take a sack.
