It was 'covered up' because the people the 49ers fed the story to agreed to wait to release it. The possible motivations for the 49ers to prefer to release the news at a time of their choice is wide ranging.

I don't know why some folks think this whole thing is over. Yall know damn well her family + lawyer will sue. It would be smart to settle obviously, but you never know with some situations.

What I'm good at is managing facts/information and coming to a conclusion by process of elimination. That was easy with Trey Lance's situation.

Again, the 49ers motivation to control the timing of the release of the news is wide ranging. There's very little evidence to use to eliminate a possibility, or weigh one possibility over another.

Common sense tells me the woman could remain quiet for a variety of reasons ranging from a desire for privacy to signing an NDA.

I'd say there was more a desire to control timing on the part of the 49ers, rather than maintain secrecy. That's what the available evidence shows at least.

The available evidence is Shanahans word and police clerical errors. There isn't any reliable evidence surrounding this situation. Why they wanted to control the release of this makes no sense if there is no wrongdoing
