So if we win the 1st quarter, we win the game? Coach doesnt need to adjust at all? Hard to control the 4th quarter?

Jusr like any sport, success in the 4th quarter, 3rd period 2nd half wins games. Of course you want to get off to good start but you are overstating the first quaryer stat. Who cares.

I literally explained why I posted it in this thread. Nobody made a claim you win the game in the first quarter. I suggest if you want to continue discussions here then actually read what's being said.

First quarter rarely has teams so far ahead/behind where playcalling is impacted in a big way. It's the best indicator of how good coaching is in terms of planning heading into the game.

Threating to ban me? I am being sacastic to your claim that 1st quarter wins indicates a coaches impact while fluffying off the other 3 quarters of the game. Apparently the rest of the game is out of control.

Nobody is threatening to ban you 🙄

The rest of the game, especially the 4th quarter is driven by what happens earlier. It's not a complicated concept.

I'm not saying 4th quarter isn't important, it's obviously incredibly important. I'm saying the equivalent of those stats in the 4th quarter are not as telling for a coach in regards to planning to attack the opposing defenses.

The game is not static. Just because you have success offensively in the 1st doesnt mean a whole lot in my mind. The coach has all week to think about it. What i care about or would weight more is their ability to adjust in the 2nd 3rd and 4th quarter. My memory may be lacking but it seems like the 49ers offense struggles in the second half of games and has for awhile. Thought Purdy struggled last year in the second half of games.

We're *terrible* at coming back later in games in dropback passing situations. It hasn't been a strength of Kyle's offense.

We've had success with leads and in situations where we can stay balanced.

personally i think a lot of that stuff is invented, bill walsh famously had his script and started strong,

but the idea someone is a good player in Q1 then they forget how to play ball in Q2, that is fictional, maybe stats can show big disparities, that's probably just random, it's not like the quarter flips over and he forgets how to do his job,

but let's not get in the weeds, shanny is a top coach you can ask anyone you want

You're right it's not static which is why Q1 is more telling to me. Lots can happen in a game. From lopsided scores to key injuries. It's simply harder to look at similar stats later in the game and form the same type of conclusion because of all those things.

As Smokey pointed out in general we have had a poor showing down in Q4 but that's a bad spot for most teams. Even the greats have a losing record in those situations. It's worse here because our scheme relies on a lot of things that go out the window when down late. All the motions kind of go out the window, no more play action, OL has to pass block every down. It's not a recipe for success for sure here.

Even more reason to try and not face a serious deficit late in the game.

If the 49ers were at the bottom of the list, I'm sure TD would be singing a different tune.

as for 4Qs, All 13 wins weren't comeback wins.. so that is telling on how our 4Qs were. And with a 3rd string defense
I remember looking up how many times in Walsh's 10 years as 49ers HC his teams had Q4 comebacks of 8+ (two scores for his day) and it was in the single digits. Most teams don't make big late comebacks frequently, even the great ones. The Chiefs w/ Mahomes are the exception, with their 2019 being the largest aberration.

that fight would have played out same as when that canadian thought he could take the ice hockey player and got tossed into the lake

We're not great at coming back later in games in dropback passing situations. It hasn't been a strength of Kyle's offense.

We've had success with leads and in situations where we can stay balanced.

Are there teams that are great at coming back in those situations? I can't think of a team that is good at it by design and not due mostly to the talent and skillset of the QB involved.
