Yup, I hear you. However, they did bring in FAs to compete in camp. They might not pan out, but at least they tried... they don't even try to help out the safety spot. Brown (top 5 in his mind / a legend in his own mind) can't cover himself with a blanket on a cold day. MM is all gas no brakes and misses 100 tackles. F those dudes. Sigle got benched. Who do we have

It's sad AF!

I think this is a Lynch thing, I think he believes he can find great safeties late because he was one. Worked with Hufanga, but not a lot of others.

Agree. That's one thing the dynasty years had versus the current organization - was a hall of fame safety in Lott and Deion Sanders (who was a cornerback). In other words, they devoted a chunk of draft and financial capital to the defensive backfield, and had great success - unlike ShanaLynch.
Tim McDonald >>>>> Deion Sanders in terms of value signing. McDonald was the leader of the backfield from 1993-1999. Sanders had an all time year, but it was still just one year.

Kyle is an amazing coach, I'm sticking with that, but we need someone to strap him to a chair and tape his mouth shut on draft day.

Yea, Kyle's an amazing offensive mind. Needs to be paired with a strong GM who specializes in player evaluation and talent acquisition.

Lynch is great at public speaking and free agent talent acquisition, he started out great at drafting in the mid and late rounds but it looks like that magic is fading fast.

I still think Lynch has good draft moments, I think day 3 will be better, likely will be guys the coaching staff haven't even heard of and we lean on our scouts more.
Then the scouts have had good moments Lynch is irrelevant.

During the 80's they drafted extremely well. Found hall of gamers everywhere. QB, RB, WR, de, cb/safety etc. notice how spread out it is too. If you can be that good and fortunate with your drafting. Especially with a qb. You're going to win a ton.

This regime has had some great hits but didn't have the caliber qb needed to win it all. Now that they found Purdy.. they aren't drafting well almost anywhere else and their stars keep getting seriously hurt on top of that. It's insane. 🤷‍♂?

Good point. Kyle had to be literally forced to do the CMC trade by both John and Jed. So I agree - in the early rounds, he needs to maybe step back a bit more than even than in the later rounds.

I'm just happy we got a good OLine pick. That gives Purdy a fighting chance to stay alive this upcoming season.

Kyle was hesitant to trade for CMC because they were giving up a lot of picks and already were without a first due to the Lance trade. He wasn't against the trade, he just didn't think it was possible and a long-term healthy choice. Kyle wasn't alone in this thinking either at the time. The Panthers were adamant in wanting a package that started with a first-round pick. It was also a move that seemed to good to be a true for someone that was connected to the McCaffrey family and it had him second-guessing if this was a good long-run move. When the rumors hit the locker room, even the players that were enamoured at the idea didn't think it was possible. When 49ers fans heard about what was given up for CMC, the reaction was the 49ers overpaid for a constantly injured running back after we invested a ton of picks in QB and RB and this move would hurt their long-term ability to roster-build through the draft.

And of course Lynch had to talk him into it. Everything they do requires one side to talk the other into a choice. That's how their relationship operates and it is actually written in their contracts. Nothing happens unless both agree and both have shown for nearly a decade they are willing to communicate and support the other.

Deion >>>>>>>>> McDonald in terms of value. The NFL negotiated the "Deion Rule" into the CBA to prevent teams from valuemaxxing contracts.

I'd take an All-Pro center for 8 years over a HoF CB for 1.

You clearly didn't watch Deion play. He eliminated half the field on defense.

I think you need to read what you just wrote because you just agreed with my point that Kyle didn't want the CMC trade.

Agree. What is missing is the draft part of the equation in this years current organization. Walsh had an eye for football talent that I don't think Kyle has yet. But the fact that Kyle was able to find Brock and have been able to find gems in day three picks leads me to believe he can develop that eye for talent at some point in time. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

If Kyle can put these two together - (1) a good draft eye and get a (2) good defensive coach who won't leave him every other year, he'll win a lot of superbowls.

He had an incredible year.

One year.

I saw every game of 1994. I just value 1993-1999 with McDonald more than that single season of Deion.
If he ever wants to win a ring he needs his drafting privileges revoked because he sucks at that. Amazing coach but sucks at talent evaluation in the draft.

He was the difference maker that won our last SB....letting him and Waters walk are the reasons we were just 2nd best for Youngs remaining years.

They added many other starters on the defense that year.

Yes, Deion was awesome that year. He didn't win it all by himself, though. It would had been nice to keep him. Losing Watters was worse, IMO, as RB was a major hindrance to the offense before getting Hearst.
