You really back on this?

If the Lions were truly interested in getting the best offer they could get for Stafford they would've gotten back to Shanahan. The Rams had 0 leverage for a "if you don't take this deal now it's gone" play.

The Lions GM wanted Goff as part of the deal and got what he wanted. Clearly there was no follow up with Kyle or the 49ers. You've literally posted the article that shows just that. There was no communication back from the Lions.

If you're trying to buy something from someone and they're ignoring your communication, what exactly can you do about it?

Why they pivoted to making that trade up we'll never know. Obviously they claimed it was so they could scout them in the open without worrying about teams knowing they wanted a QB but it wasn't a good idea then or now even less so. If it wasn't for covid maybe they get a better read on Lance and make the right pick.

Either way you need to stop playing the whole Stafford situation like Kyle simply let him go to the Rams due to some sort of negligence.

Every draft expert that I recall had all five QBs in the top 12-15. It was considered a bonanza year. All were destined for greatness. It didn't seem to matter who you picked, they were top level talent.

Hindsight is always 20/20, but it clouds our view of why certain decisions were made. However, it does give us something to rag about when injuries have taken our team out of the playoffs.

Absolutely not. In fact I preferred Lance over him, though I didn't want either. They were both projects as passers and our team couldn't afford to play and develop these players AND maximize their chances to win a SB (which they were primed to do at that time).

I wanted Jones specifically because he was pro ready and an obvious fit for our offense. I thought he would be a healthier, better version of Jimmy G (from day 1), and cheaper with his rookie contract, allowing the team to add in other areas on the roster.

My brotha!!!! I felt the exact same way through that whole process. I wanted Mac Jones too because of being Pro ready and from all the games I've watched of his. Imagine where this team would have been if they stayed where they were and just took Mac Jones?

Might have won the SB in '21. Certainly would have had a better chance than having an unplayable #2 and Jimmy G with two separate injuries to his throwing arm.

Some of the worst management decisions I've ever seen at the position when you include the decision to start and play Lance in '22.

I agree with that idea, however, there was no assurance Jones would have been there at 12. It may well have been that Shanahan initially wanted Jones and feared he would be gone if they waited. So, they made the trade but in the meantime, became convinced Lance was the better choice. We will never know.

Plenty of truth as to what was said In that article too Tbh.
Definitely true. Even going back to SB 47, there were so many missed opportunities through the years. Not giving the ball to Gore on that last drive to the 3rd and 15 in SB 54 to not blocking Jones for an extra second in 2023. Not to mention a dropped pick vs the Rams in 2021 up ten.

I do believe Eddie would have fired Kyle after 2021 or 2023. He was a passionate owner obsessed with winning. Would it have been the right decision? Who knows.

Eddie would have canned Kyle after 23'. Losing one is excusable but two...

I think earlier than that. Losing a 10 point lead in the 4th in a SB, following it up with losing a 10 point lead in the 4th in the NFCC ? No way. Eddie would lose his s**t in the locker room after that Rams game and probably fire both Kyle and Lynch on the spot.

I disagree I think Eddie would've appreciated how close we came and understood it was the players fault and signed Kyle to a lifetime contract. Good luck proving me wrong.

I don't need to prove you wrong. I'm sure you chuckled while typing that…

Bruh, your Lambs signed this dude, dawg

The problem with Shany is this.

Positives:

* Shifts and motions.
* Innovative offense.

Negatives:

* Draft....
* Free Agency....
* Internal extensions (Ex - Aiyuk)....
* Trades (Trey Lance)....
* Ignore offensive line....
* Cap management and dead money....
* Down 8 points. 0 - 51 including playoffs since 2017....
* Routinely chokes in the big games. Against top competition. Can beat the softball teams....
* Always one of the most injured teams at key positions....

The question is do fancy shifts and motions outweigh all of that? I submit to you that they do not. Thus the problem. There is more to running a team and front office than shifts and motions. Shany would be better as an offensive coordinator or a coach with very limited front office say. He's a complete disaster at everything front office related that you need to win. Does he do good shifts and motions? You could make the argument. But does it outweigh the huge negatives that he also brings? I would say no by a long shot.

Just don't think you can ever win with him. He's so bad in the categories you really need to build a winning program. While fooling a lot of fans with the fancy, elaborate shifts and motions. Which are not everything in building a championship football team.

I'd say 65% of fans still support him. The number of fans that support shanahan on this site for whatever reason is much higher. I will say that there is a correlation between the fans wanting Trey Lance and the fans who support Kyle. They are mesmerized by the flash, the offensive play designs, the idea of a dynamic qb. The trouble is this doesn't necessarily translate to a Super Bowl winning team. You can argue that the chiefs are like that, but in order to emulate the chiefs you have to find a player like mahommes, and that isn't easy to do.
I just simply want our franchise to be well run, with a superior gm, and a team that's solidly coached. We don't need a flashy play designer as a coach. We don't need a flashy qb.

Neither darnold nor drake maye are particularly dynamic. Maye just does everything well. Darnold has turned into an excellent game manager. Both teams are well coached and have a well run organization. with shanahan I think we have seen the best he can do. That last Super Bowl with Purdy was his chance.

Yeah I agree with a lot of those. They are mesmerized by the fancy shifts and motions. But he's catastrophic where you need it the most. Running a front office and building a roster. Seattle and New England both did really well in the draft, free agency and trades recently. The Broncos have as well. Certainly the Eagles. Those are the teams that have a chance to win currently. Build the roster the right way. However you do it. We are below average at that. Even terrible. Compared to what you need to win the Super Bowl. I don't question his ability to do shifts and motions and innovative offense. He's good at that. But you just can't win the Super Bowl being so bad at the rest.

2 more years. All the glitz and glamour will wear thin post 10 years head coaching. He's gonna get the Andy Reid treatment.

Theoretically speaking if Eddie D. was still the owner after the riverboat casino scandal he would have sold the 49ers, probably in 2015, to some silicon valley billionaire. He was just about the $ as he was about the team.
