I said after the Eagles win, everything else after that tough win was house money... So I'm not too disappointed, but I should also not he surpised regarding Kyle. It just seems he wanted to go down his way, and in my opinion, at the expense of the team. We threw out the same offensive (rbs, Wrs) personnel.. and the offense didn't look much different. We got stopped on 3rds and 4th and short... I mean.. almost everything looked the same in the first half as the last time we played them...but in the second half they pulled away, as if THEY made adjustments from our previous game.
We can point to injuries yes.. but we have had stacked rosters before. Stacked offensive rosters. Our issues of why we lost just seems the same in these big post season games. Offense. Injuries or not.
Kyle's offense never changes. It's very predictable. The Seahawks did nothing different defensively yesterday. They played it like 2 weeks ago. And just like 2 weeks ago we came out with the same philosophy. The scheme is stale. Can't keep blaming injuries even in week 1 we didn't really do much until the last drive.
The scheme worked against our defense last night. Injuries do matter. The issue is our offensive line cannot handle top defensive lines. Now this is a fair argument because if I can predict that in August then .....
rule #1 is being able to win your division. That means sizing up your divisional opponents. The Seahawks and rams have loaded defenses. Luke cannot scheme wins with plumber and electricians along the o-line against these teams.
Maybe the bright side is it's fairly obvious to me the easiest counter is upgrading the offensive line.
That being said with all the injuries we overachieved this year. We have a fantastic coach and great front office overall.
We're 3rd best in our division with 2 coaches that are probably better than Kyle Shanahan at this point. I don't think just fixing the offensive line will solve all our problems. This team needs a philosophy change and maybe it's what we did in the early 2010s where we became a defensive powerhouse. This bend but don't break BS eventually catches up to you. Look at Seattle and Houston. You got guys like Sam Darnold and CJ Stroud playing subpar but their teams looks unstoppable bc of the defenses. What did Darnold throw for like 120 yards yesterday ? And his team scored 41 points bc that D is lights out.
We have a good defense. Injuries derailed it. Don't forget this was technically a rebuilding year and they did draft 3 defensive lineman. Mykel was a+ against the run. Losing him hurt than many realize. Really the injuries are derailing this era. Development and all that gets thrown out with these injuries.
It also doesnt help that Kyle is so bad the entire league poaches his stuff every single year.
No question the injuries had a major impact. We all know that. Willliams injury on top of Bosa's caused a major shakeup in how they used their D linemen. We also have to recognize that the Seahawks are just better than we are right now. They've been very fortunate with their draft picks in the last 3 years. Most have stayed healthy and some have played better than expected. They really hit pay dirt in 2023 when they had the 5th, 20th, 37th and 52nd over all picks.
The Niners need to get lucky like that and have a couple of solid drafts and maybe find a couple of hidden gems. They definitely need to improve overall team speed. Too many of the 49ers best players are older or have been slowed by injuries.
