49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan Thread

I first became a Niners fan in the mid-70s when Monte Clark was HC. Those were tough years. But then afterwards being able to see this team under HCs like Walsh & Seifert…and then later Harbaugh, and for the past nine years, Shanahan, I feel very fortunate as a fan of this team (seeing all 5 SB victories; they have the most playoff wins in NFL history in the SB era).

Regarding Shanahan, and I really appreciate all he's done in helping make this team a contender throughout his tenure, today's game we saw yet again this team's ST (& OL) failing them when it matters most in the playoffs.

The last time the Niners were in the playoffs two years ago their ST failed them in the SB in opening the door for Chiefs late in the 3rd (thanks Luter) to score their first TD. Today vs. the Seahawks, they give up an opening kickoff return TD to set the tone/momentum for the Seahawks & get their crowd into the game from the outset.

The postseason failures of this team's ST & OL have been the Achilles' heel under Shanahan IMO. Will it ever change - will it ever improve? It needs to in order to greatly improve chances at attaining #6 for this franchise.

One can only hope.

Yeah sure.^^
You may look at other teams in the league and their rosters.
Still love our coach, and our team. Last night ends our season, but it does not define it.

Have you even looked at any other NFL team? Our 3rd and 4th stringers have done well this year. To say our player personnel is bottom 3 or worse is beyond ignorant. It is simply posting garbage to try to get a response. Have a look at our season win/loss. Now look at the key players out for part or most of the season. Then think before you post.

They had 22 different starters on Defense this season. The starting QB missed half the season. The two best Defensive players missed almost all season.
Your star TE missed 7 games and just had an achille tear.
I mean, good luck trying to do better than this season with everything that happened.
I said after the Eagles win, everything else after that tough win was house money... So I'm not too disappointed, but I should also not he surpised regarding Kyle. It just seems he wanted to go down his way, and in my opinion, at the expense of the team. We threw out the same offensive (rbs, Wrs) personnel.. and the offense didn't look much different. We got stopped on 3rds and 4th and short... I mean.. almost everything looked the same in the first half as the last time we played them...but in the second half they pulled away, as if THEY made adjustments from our previous game.

We can point to injuries yes.. but we have had stacked rosters before. Stacked offensive rosters. Our issues of why we lost just seems the same in these big post season games. Offense. Injuries or not.

This way one of the better Special Teams units we have had recently. Lame to keep returning to injuries but Kendricks was on that ST unit until called upon to play on the Defense.

Kyle's offense never changes. It's very predictable. The Seahawks did nothing different defensively yesterday. They played it like 2 weeks ago. And just like 2 weeks ago we came out with the same philosophy. The scheme is stale. Can't keep blaming injuries even in week 1 we didn't really do much until the last drive.

The scheme worked against our defense last night. Injuries do matter. The issue is our offensive line cannot handle top defensive lines. Now this is a fair argument because if I can predict that in August then .....

rule #1 is being able to win your division. That means sizing up your divisional opponents. The Seahawks and rams have loaded defenses. Luke cannot scheme wins with plumber and electricians along the o-line against these teams.

Maybe the bright side is it's fairly obvious to me the easiest counter is upgrading the offensive line.

That being said with all the injuries we overachieved this year. We have a fantastic coach and great front office overall.

The problem I see is we can't discern where the FO stops and the coaching staff starts in terms of roster building. Lots of opinions flying around regarding who has final say on personnel, and that makes it hard to correct this issue...because I agree, Shanny generally gets it done on game days, but whoever is controlling the roster is way out of their depth.

They are awful at player personnel. Bottom 3 in the league. At least that bad.

We're 3rd best in our division with 2 coaches that are probably better than Kyle Shanahan at this point. I don't think just fixing the offensive line will solve all our problems. This team needs a philosophy change and maybe it's what we did in the early 2010s where we became a defensive powerhouse. This bend but don't break BS eventually catches up to you. Look at Seattle and Houston. You got guys like Sam Darnold and CJ Stroud playing subpar but their teams looks unstoppable bc of the defenses. What did Darnold throw for like 120 yards yesterday ? And his team scored 41 points bc that D is lights out.

We lose Defensive Coodinators faster than we do players. If one has the liberty of rebuilding then sure stockpile talent to fit a specific scheme.

Winning on the fly and especially given our injuries on Defense, seems more wise to be flexible and fit the scheme around the personal

The simplest solution surely is rebuild the run O and run D. Then it makes sense to bend but don't break.
Back to the Cellar for this Franchise.

Rams and Seahawks will be pounding us into Submission for the next 10 years.

I think we should keep Kyle, but only in a HC capacity.

Lynch, on the other hand, can't go soon enough.

Bring in a new GM with full power and final say over draft and personnel.

Lynch had been hiding behind Peters since he started. And unfortunately we let the wrong guy walk. Going forward I have no confidence in Lynch's ability to draft or acquire free agents.

Lmao. You clearly dont pay attention to all the personnel decisions in Washington. Nor have you noticed that the drafts are better now than they have been since about 2020 or 2021.

Not the Rams. I think if Stafford and McVay win this year there's a good chance one or both call it quits or maybe one last swan song in 2026 to run it back. Hopefully they'll simmer out after that. Seattle on the other hand looks dangerous. Macdonald rebuilding that Legion of Boom and that fanbase looked rabid as ever last night. This might be a rerun on the 2010s when Pete the cheat had that team dismantling offenses.
