We are really in rebuilding mode right now. But people are in denial about it. It requires a complete rebuild of the TRENCHES on both sides, plus S, new WR's, younger TE eventually. Is Brock the guy? I like him. But I would be very, very careful about huge contracts. We could be down 3 years now rebuilding. We will have more high picks. Trust me. This isn't the last time in the top 11.
So now you are on the fence about Brock star? Classic SD
I said I like Brock and I have supported him much more than most here. I think we are in a rebuild right now. So I would be very, very careful about tying up huge sums of money with a QB. Just be cautious and have a team out. If it goes bad somehow. In the midst of a rebuild I'm not sure you want a huge QB deal. Is the guy for the future when we fixed a lot of our issues on the rebuild? Who knows. That could be several years from now.
But you said he was the Brock star and was an elite, top 5 guy. Pretty sure you also had him on same level as PM. So now you are backing off that?
I've never called him on the same level as Patrick Mahomes. Not sure I would call him top 5 right now.
As new data points come in people adjust their outlook some. We just went 6 - 11, .353, #11 overall pick. Lost 4/8 years. One of the oldest teams in the league. I would be very, very cautious about handing out big contracts to almost anyone on this team. I think this will be a completely different team by 2028. Even a lot of the stars will be gone. We likely missed our window and are now in rebuild mode. Without a lot of people realizing it or admitting it.
Pretty sure you did, so I will ask again …you have changed your opinion on Brock star, correct?
I'm in a more cautious category for almost everyone on the team. I think we are in rebuild mode and will be for several years. So you wouldn't want to lock the next regime in on lots of bloated contracts that may or may not work out.
I'm not asking about the state of the team or others contracts. I'm asking about your opinion now on Brock star vs the last few seasons
I still like him. But I would be cautious with him. So the team was 6 - 11, .353, #11 overall pick. We are one of the oldest teams in the league. We got a lot of injured and injury prone guys. He at times can be really accurate. But he also does struggle with a wet, muddy, snow ball. We have seen him in the bad weather and it's like Krytonite to him. The smaller hands and he doesn't hold it well. Always slipping out. Problem is end of year and playoffs are bad weather games. We had lots of injuries and not all Brock's fault. But if you pay him huge money it's equivalent to guys being gone. What's the difference between injured gone and gone to salary cap? They are gone. The media narrative is a little unfair to Brock. But he's not Mahomes, Allen, Jackson either. He doesn't throw rockets and have blazing speed or huge size and strength. He's an excellent processor given time and is a little underrated athlete. An accurate thrower. Can create a little off schedule. More accurate than rocket arm. He's good but maybe some limitations too.
