49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan Thread

It's funny, there's an entire thread on this site dedicated to bashing Shanahan/Lynch because we didn't draft Kizer.

I'd rather have Foster thank you very much.

Mahomes and Watson were outside of the pocket QB's that often rely on broken plays. More in the mold of RG3 (who had a great rookie season) than that of true pocket passers. Shanahan wants a pocket passer because they offer long term stability. Not only that but you can use the full playbook with a pocket passer as we saw with Matt Ryan in 2016.

Trubisky was closest to what we were looking for but they didn't like the odds on him at #2. He only had one year experience in college.

I'm not even sure why I'm posting this. I've said everything I can say over and over and over then the extreme criticisms just expand. There's literally nothing you can say to a person that holds an irrational position. That's the entire point of being irrational.

These irrational and premature criticisms will continue all year and this site will devolve into a miserable s**thole. It's halfway there already.

I couldn't have said it any better

Its not really a matter of opinion, you don't make the playoffs for showing improvement.

This team has the talent to win some of these close games, they are just choking in the 4th and that's largely on coaching.

How is Hoyer holding onto the ball and missing reads on the HC? How is dropping balls on the HC? You can only coach so much and put a player in the right position to actually perform like a NFL player.

We simply don't have the overall talent to win those close games yet...and people are fooling themselves if that actually thought we get the overall talent in 6 months to change everything.

Interesting. When this was Kap it was all Harbaugh's fault. Hmm.

Sorry, have to disagree with this assessment. While its true that they haven't been closing games the coaching is vastly improved from what we've had in the past two years. Is there room from improvement, absolutely, especially on the defensive side, but it isn't the coaching that is their problem. It's the execution and the lack of talent at some key positions. They have been in almost every game they've played this year. Hard to believe they won't start turning things around once they get a few more pieces in place. Go Niners!!

This - completely agree. Players make plays, coaches coach to hopefully put them in position to make plays. I see a lot of that with Shanahan, Saleh, Special Teams, etc., more so this year than the previous couple of years by far. The lack of talent and the lack of execution that comes with it is showing up time and time again in these close games and this team so far cannot overcome it to produce a victory. Many times, you just need a player to make a play - good, talented players do just that and it obviously puts the team in better position to win. Are Shanahan, Saleh, and some of the other coaches still learning? Yes, of course, especially as first-time HC and DC (really did not like the LBs and secondary playing so far back on some of those third-and-longs). But, they have put the players in position to make plays and the plays need to start being made more consistently. Clean some things up and to me the outlook is bright, especially when you add more talent/the right talent for what they want to do on O and D.

Barring a scenario here and there (like the fourth quarter yesterday and during the Rams game), we're pretty bad inside of the 20-yard-lines. You see their potential progressing down the field quite often, albeit inconsistently, but for some reason they just take a massive dump when it's time to score. I just don't get it.

I was a Harbs guy when he was here, so your not getting me on that lol.

My only real issue with Harbs was him not letting Roman go...kyle is scheming players open, Roman had issues with that.

zero excuse for beating a team that had a third string qb and why did we wait till the 4th to start playing decently. sorry. its on coaches in regards to mistakes and not ready to play the game. the mistakes keep happening and no. its not all on the young guys so that excuse holds no water in my opinion. our defense was full of holes against a third stringer. that can not be excused or defended,. though i am sure some will give it the old college try.

It was a general statement based on the same argument that it was play calling being the issue. It was more about players not making plays. Same as now.

There was no reason to fire Roman he only called the running plays. lol

Junior high reasoning at it's best.
the stuff i pointed out started in pre season and shows no sign of improving in game five,. do not blame me if you are unable or unwilling to grasp a different point of view that yours

We have a s**t ton of penalties, lots of stupid ones also. Don't even get me started on that kick return gaffe where the two return men collided.
