Kyle got to see what Trey was capable of passing the ball and clearly made the decision that he needed to run more than pass. At least that's how I take it
At this stage, sure. Not to the end of time.
Yeah. I'm not giving up on Trey I can just understand why Kyle would use Trey as a runner currently
likely Shanny has watched him have issues passing the ball, and to keep an offense on rhythm he decided Trey has to run the ball.
Had Trey passed the ball all over camp, and the preseason.... He would likely be throwing the ball more during the regular season.
At this point in his career Trey has accuracy issues, It would not shock me to find out trey was forced to play to early to satisfy ownership/management.
The version of Trey we saw this season was likely the NFL effective version. I don't think Trey could have keep the defenses honest with his current passing ability in a traditional offense. I think the offense needed his x-factor/gadget calls to be effective.
The idea was that as the season went along and Trey got more playing time the passing game would open up more. They needed to play Lance for him to progress whether he was ready or not, because that's the way the NFL works now - QBs do not get the luxury of sitting behind a vet for more than a year, and even that is unusual.
So, yes, they were keeping things simpler for Lance, with more runs overall, in order to bring him along. Today was his 5th start in the last four years. To say he's raw is to state the obvious. Thing is, even with that rawness and a 2:1 run:pass ratio the kid was playing pretty well. He was calm out there, guiding the offense, and running things well. There's no reason to think he can't return and continue to progress from where he left off, as he'll still be 23 a year from now, which is younger than most QBs coming out in the 2023 draft.
