I always thought the trade up was stupid. Two future first round picks to move up 9 spots and pick third overall, so arguably the third best QB prospect. That kind of trade makes sense if Peyton or Luck is draftable at the spot you are picking but none of the QBs available at 3 overall in 2021 were that strong of a prospect. So you are betting on hope/projection.

Maybe. I'm not gonna make such a grand statement

If this is the way hes going to be used in the future, it was the wrong pick.

I just think his mindset is this he has the play he feels is best to call and he runs it without any regard to the player's health short-term or long-term in the process.

To play devil's advocate I don't disagree with Shanahan's mindset with Lance. It's a run-oriented offense with a raw 1st-time starter at center so it does make sense to lean on Lance's legs more than his arm and ramp up the passing more and more as the season goes on and Lance's experience and comfort level increases.

What I disagree with is the number of designed power runs that give Lance little to no chance to slide and put him in a position to take shots from LBs and linemen. I know Lance has a big frame that can take some punishment but he's still not a running back that's training to take that kind of punishment throughout the year. If Lance had 2 or 3 power runs a game and got hurt on one of them most would chalk it up to bad luck but they hadn't even finished the 2nd offensive drive of the game and he already had 3.

So it's not running Lance that's a problem it's running Lance the number of times into the teeth of the defense that's the problem.

Good level headed take bro

Weird that some non trolls have that same energy. Thank you for proving to them they are incorrect
Lance's timeline bears resemblance to Kap. A game or two every 4 or 5 years.

Rather have Mills in 2nd then Mac in first.

I would have rather just decided to run with Jimmy and keep all the picks if this was the vision Kyle had. Jones and Mills are below Jimmy

Hindsight 20/20 but you're probably right

Shanny needs to coach Trey up to slide and stop trying to run people over. This is absolutely crucial because Trey cannot afford to miss playing time. Especially this week, Seattle loves to hurt our players so we cannot allow Trey to run recklessly.

Or perhaps calling less QB powers

The designed QB runs aren't going anywhere anytime soon. I said it all off season in here. Folks just don't want to accept it. It is one of the reasons why we drafted him. Fans may not like it but it is what it is.

Folks don't want to accept it cuz in a sense it's stupid. They mentioned it in the broadcast with neutral announcers. They said do you really want this guy you invested all this in to be mixing it up with NFL front sevens. There are ways to run him without heavy contact. QB power isn't one of them imo. Steve Young addressed this yesterday on KNBR. He said in college he can stiff arm defensive tackles.. and do that type of stuff.. not anymore at the NFL level.

Folks can think its stupid all they want but it isn't going to change anything.

Bump for reality slapping you in the face. It was not unpredictable. Above was discussed last week.

You think Shanahan ran lance so much, hoping he'd get hurt?

No serious person thinks this.

Gives him an out? Why else run QB inside power repeatedly his first two starts? Maybe the reports are right, and he knew he made a mistake. Never seemed to trust Lance, that I seen. Just food for thought. I hope it's not true.

Sorry dbl post

Hell it happened in AZ last year. Except this time Kyle had more time to create a better game plan for him. I don't want to hear the "What if he threw interceptions" He didn't even get a chance to prove himself. Not a fair assumption at all.
