We lose bc of drops, untimely penalties and inconsistency drom the qb. We are clearly a better team this year but keep beating ourselves.

Moving Ward back to CB could resolve some of these issues. He's never made many big plays but he was consistent before injury.

It's a moral victory for the season, yes, but no one can't say this team isn't improved.
And thats four losses by 57 last year compared to four losses by 31. HUGE improvement... aside from the fool's gold W1 win in 2016.

Interesting article...last team to lose by as few points as we have were the 94' Oilers who finished their season 2-14. The HC of that team....Jeff Fisher.

We absolutely did hit a home run by getting Kyle Shanahan. Yeah, we might be losing at the moment, but this is not the same losing dynamic as existed under either of his two predecessors (and Baalke). Those aforementioned predecessors had no business being head coaches (nor TB a GM) in the NFL. KS is a winner who deserves every one of the six years he has on his contract. It's not easy to get the right pieces quickly or to always be in draft positions to get those pieces. In spite of a talent deficient roster each game he is mostly putting this team in positions to win. The ineptitude is not on him. Some of the biggest mistakes are coming from the most crucial position.Originally posted by Fanaticofnfl:Originally posted by pdizo916:Originally posted by DonnieDarko:Originally posted by ninerfan4life:Still think we hit a home run with the Shanahan hire
Lol same here, we knew this year would be rough
+1
Man you became so much more optimistic today.
It's not easy getting the right coaches. When you have them, you keep them. York has already experienced that lesson once. In Shanahan we have a keeper. The roster he inherited and that which he had a hand in crafting are better than 2-14 or 0-5. They aren't playoff contenders, but they are not a truly bad 0-5 team. It will take time to develop into a winning team. The duration of the rebuilding process depends entirely upon how quickly we can bring in the cornerstone pieces. With the right pieces a Shanahan coached team can dominate. We haven't had a franchise QB in 18 years or a #1 WR in 15 years. If we can get those pieces any criticism from these early days of his first season will seem comical.

Sign a real Vet QB, OL, and draft Barkley, and this offense can be something. All we would need is that big bodied physical WR, and there are some options there in FA next year as well.
They did find some gems in Kittle and Taylor.

Which allowed them to draft the only QB to ever to get that franchise to a Super Bowl.

Yes to all of this. Barkley could be better than Elliott and Fournette. I love Hyde but Barkley is amazing.

Not sure that losing close games to mediocre-bad teams is something to hang your hat on. The Colts were 1-3 coming into this game with a QB that wasn't on the roster 6 weeks ago. Not sure why a close loss to them in OT (one that required a 14 pt. comeback against prevent defense to even be close) should make me happy.

They're just happy they still have their mock drafts intact.

We're on the right path. What could this team be in 2018? We land Cousins, get Fangio back, draft Barkley. Holy s**t, we could go from this to division champs in one year.

Losing becomes a disease, if it runs through the entire season bad teams find a way to win a few games late and ruin their draft selection.

I dont get the Fangio talk. I loved the guy too, but I just dont see us switching systems after one year into the rebuild.

A completely new offense, a completely new defense and a complete roster overhaul is what we're working with. Chill the f**k out. Shanahan is obviously better than what we've had the last several years and if you can't see it then I'm sorry you're blind. Imo it's obvious and I am excited.

It would be nice to have a veteran. He could be to Kyle what Wade Philips is to Sean McVay. Everybody also says this personnel is better suited to a 3-4.
