49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan Thread

I don't understand the complaints about the horizontal passing game. 29th in passing? So what? So the eff what? Did it work? Did we have Bellichek and McVay twisted in knots? Yes, yes, and yes. You notice that when the LB /CB is going lateral with Au Jus/ Deebo, kittle, Aiyuk, Bourne, they don't know if it is a little bubble screen, or not and they hang back, not knowing if that guy going wide is going to level them with a block, catch a pass or not, thus allowing our YAC guys to kick azz and take names.

Frankly i love the horizontal passing game and it just gave us two really nice wins. I was sure BB would have an answer...he didn't. As for being 29th in the league in passing....does it produce Ws...or not? Well, kyle went back to our strength, our lateral passing game + outside zone runs and bingo. We win going away.

With the threat of Mostert/Wilson/ Hasty breaking off 5 yd clips, the D has to respect that each play won't be a 5 yd run...or not. And that is on all 3 downs. Meantime spruce that up with lateral passing attack of Deebo around the outside, Aiyuk around the other side, and well...there you have your summary of 29th best passing attack in the league.

So yeah, i like our passing attack and anybody that wants jimmyG to throw it downfield....fuggedaboudit. Kyle is running what works with the most beat up team in the NFL. You got lemons...you make lemonade. And as it turns out it is one helluva lot of fun to watch this O.

And some really care that Jimmy isn't heaving it downfield? For what? For show? Nope kyle is using the talent he has the one best way possible. We have been bit by some horrocious injuries in number and type, and any wins with this remaining team is just candy. With our laundry list of injuries, who would have guessed we would snake out 4 Ws in 7 games? Not I. And one of those Injuries happened to be our QB, for those of you who forgot.

He still isn't right but has been playing thru it. For those of you who want to see the long ball thrown, go watch someone else. We're doing what works, after not using it til game 6 and 7. And our YAC guys lead the league. So what if it isn't the vertical game? I like the Ws. And the Rams weren't chopped liver. It was time for kyle to scheme around Donald. Watch what happens to next game where there is a Donald clone. Same thing.

were you pooping?

Yes, pooping posts don't count. Too much grinding interferes with cranial function.

Ez schedule so far... I'd say those numbers are about to change.

Buckle up faithful it's about to get tough

Pass blocking and pass rush aren't ranked that high. This is false facts.

Yds per game we're 20th
Net passing yards: 12th
rating: 20th
comp %: 10th
YPA: 10th
Passing TD's: 23rd
1st downs: 7th
throws of 20+: 23rd.
Sacks given up: 23rd
ATT: 14th.

I literally can't find any metric where we're 29th. That makes no sense.

Was thinking the same thing last night, Bosa would've had a good chance of breaking Strahan's sack record this year.

Nice post, exactly how I feel. But they would call you a Jimmy homer in Jimmy's thread with this post..

Bosa + [Healthy] Dee Ford + potential for coverage sacks?

It would be unfair for opposing offenses

"There's a segment of practice you've seen where he (Kyle) goes and plays quarterback against our defense because he wants to challenge 'em and poke holes in the coverages," general manager and famous former safety John Lynch said before the season. "I mean, the mad scientist in him kind of meets the ex-football player. And he goes over there.

"I'll give you a little insight, sometimes I go in his office and he's watching film of himself against our defense. 'Come on, Kyle, let's move on.'"

"It started out just when I first got here in training camp (in 2017)," Shanahan said Wednesday. "I've never paid attention to the defensive periods as an offensive coordinator. And (then in 2017, as a first-time head coach), just watching how their walk-throughs went, how they have, you know, like a linebacker coach or a quality control playing quarterback for them.

"I was always just watching it and then I got so frustrated with where they were going with the ball, telling them, 'that's not where they're going to go.' Things like that, 'cause I look at it more from a quarterback perspective. Then I realized, I guess, I could go in there and try it since I was the head coach."

"Kyle, he's really into it," Warner said. "We love seeing him back there giving us a look. I think it's just fun. It makes it fun. He's hard to reach out there (because nobody is rushing him), so it makes it hard on us when we're going through that install. Which makes it a little easier when it's live and bullets are flying (during games).

He doesn't have too. Kyle is a former wide receiver. He just pops in the air to himself and takes off. YAC monster!

wait, are you saying Kyle literally lines up opposite of the defense and pokes the holes he sees through some sort of walk through or something? that is awesome

Yes. He was upset that the scout team QB (some LB coach) was not attacking the correct areas of the field. So he thought "hey I'm the HC now, I can do what I want". So he played QB with no pass rush. The funny part of all this is he then watches film of himself.
