Poor Matt Ryan. Dude should have audibled if he didn't like the play calling. He's got 15 seconds after the mic cuts out. Garoppolo audibled on the QB sneak in 2017.

Even after the sack...which Ryan knows you never take there...Kyle drew up another play to get all that yardage back...only for there to be a holding penalty on the OL. Brutal. Or Ryan missing the wide open WR in the EZ to seal it.

An OC's job is to put his players in position to win. He did his job. Period.

After Freeman ran for 71 yards in the first half, the Falcons abandoned the run with over two minutes remaining in the third and the score 28-3, calling just 4 running plays the rest of the game.

Also, why was Kyle in such a hurry to snap the ball?
1:30 left, 3rd Q, 2nd and 1 at NE 32: Ball snapped at 13 seconds left, Jake Matthews was called for holding on the play.

Atlanta then took a timeout as the play clock ran down before the 2nd down play, threw incomplete, then Matt Ryan got sacked on 3rd down. Atlanta took the clock all the way down on the punt and took a delay of game, taking it to the 4th quarter.

9:00 left, 4th Q, 2nd and 2 at ATL 35: Ball snapped at 9 seconds left. Tevin Coleman run up the middle for 1 yard, hurt on play.

8:31 left, 4th Q, 3rd and 1 at ATL 36: Ball snapped at 15 seconds left. Matt Ryan hit, fumbles, giving New England ball back in Atlanta territory down 28-12 with 8:24 remaining.

5:18 left, 4th Q, 1st and 10 at ATL 49, Ball snapped at 20 seconds left. After a big gain to Devonta Freeman gets Atlanta to midfield, with a new set of downs, up by 8, the ball is snapped with an incredible 20 seconds remaining. Freeman runs for a 2-yard gain. Clock is stopped temporarily for an injury, but then restarts.

4:47 left, 4th Q, 2nd and 8 at NE 49, Ball snapped at 14 seconds left. The Julio Jones insane catch play. He made the catch on the sideline, stopping the clock with 4:40 remaining, with a 1st and 10 at the New England 22.

3:56 left, 4th Q, 2nd and 11 at NE 23, Ball snapped at 4 seconds left. The key Matt Ryan sack came with Atlanta finally running the clock below 5 seconds, and getting it under 4 minutes left. New England took their first timeout, stopping the clock, after this play.

Looks like the BS Ryan was saying abou the play call's coming in late are completely bogus. Shanny did his job, Ryan is a pro QB and knows how to play the game and understands what's on the line.

Snapping the ball early is on Ryan, or is Shanny supposed to be holding his hand on the field and telling him when to snap it?

The first time sure its on Ryan. But coaches are then supposed to tell Ryan to stop snapping the ball so early if he keeps doing it. That is a coaches job. To instruct the players before, during and after the game.

Remember their RB1 got hurt and the start of the second half BB changed up the game plan to sell out to stop the run by targeting their C who was playing on one knee. It worked. Kyle countered with the pass.

The RB2 also blew his protection call (hesitated running out in the route or staying in to protect)...sack fumble game over.

At that point in his career if "matty ice" hasn't figured out how to manage clock then no amount of coaching is going to help him. Unless managing clock is a completely new concept and this was Ryan's first game having to do it.

Ryan had no problem blaming everything on Kyle after the game, maybe he needs to man up and admit he chocked.

If a coach needs to be blamed then put it on Quinn. He's the head coach and is responsible for everything right?
If you look at this Super Bowl Brady actually walked up to Bill and said kick the field goal. 40 yarder, 10 point game. It's ball game.

Quinn, Shanny, Ryan none of them stepped up and understood the moment. They were all playing too aggressive in fear that Tom was going to make a miraculous comeback. Instead they handed it to him.

It's more complexed than that. You'd also have someone running the 2 minute offense and that varied.

Chryst called red zone plays for the entire Harbaugh regime. It's very unlikely that Roman made that red zone pass play call.

It's debatable what the roles were as well. If you want to show me anyone saying Chryst made those calls I'll believe you but as of now I've heard Roman say himself he made them.

Shanahan watched it happen over and over again, it is on him and Ryan. The OC should hold his QB's hand if necessary.

This is a good assessment.
I'm going back and watching some film from this year again. Watched the DET game. Really focused on the not just the how but the why the play was designed the way it was and to see if I could catch why Shanny did some things a certain way. I'm actually even more impressed with him. There were some really amazing play designs and playcalls in that game. Not all of it was great and worked but some of it is pure gold.

I agree with all this too. I am happy to have the guy as our HC and I love his playbook.
Here's one thing I saw I didn't catch during the season.

Here, we run a 3 TE set with the strong side to the right. We're going to run a stretch zone run play to the strong side. Note, #40, the weakside backer. He attacks this run really aggressively and prevents a TD.

Notice how not even our fastest O-lineman, Joe Staley, is able to get to him on the 2nd level because he's pursuing so aggressively.

The very next play Kyle comes out in the same formation but flipped to the field side to give the appearance that he's trying to hit that run again to the wide side of the field. DET tries to take this play away by formation and it leaves the ultra aggressive WLB as the lone LB in the middle of the field.

He then uses #40's aggressiveness against him. Shanny then puts Celek in the spot vacated by the WLB. Bam TD.

That's really great that he saw that LB playing that aggressive and was able to nail him on the very next playcall. Most playcallers are 2 or 3 plays down the line as they're calling it, which I'm sure Shanny is at times but he also has the wherewithal to see something like that and immediately take advantage.

That is so beautiful!!
"Any playcaller that you talk to, that's usually one of the most important things and something I pride myself on a lot, is how quick can you get a playcall into a quarterback," Shanahan said. "And the quicker you do, the more comfortable it is, not just for him but the entire offense. They're not panicked, they're being able to move to the line. And with me as a coordinator, personally, I try almost every situation to get it in as fast as possible. And I can be honest, there's sometimes I do better than others. There are sometimes I don't do it as good. There's sometimes I do it real good. That's something that we all work at and one thing I can say about our two years in Atlanta that I was happy with and happy with the whole entire offense that we were the only team in the NFL that went two straight years without one delay of game. I've never done that in my entire career and I don't think many other teams have."

Not bad.
