When he was asked if there was one play in particular he regretted the most, Shanahan answered honestly.
"There's no doubt," Shanahan said. "The second-and-10 that we got sacked on. I wish I had dialed something up differently."
The play he's talking about occurred with roughly four minutes remaining in the game. At that point, the Falcons still held an eight-point lead with the ball. Most importantly, they were already in field-goal range at the 23-yard line. All the Falcons had to do was run some clock and kick a field goal to take a two-score advantage. If they had done that, they likely would've won the Super Bowl.

Because of course Matt Ryan.

.... and look how Dan Quinn's offense is doing now. He can thank Shanahan for that SB appearance, because he's probably going to be out of a job by the end of this year..

And that's about the best Matt Ryan will ever play. He too can thank Shanahan for that.

No surprise Ryan has flopped afterwards. Leaders don't toss the oc under the bus even if there's blame to be had.

I honestly couldn't believe Ryan did that. It's such a loser thing to do especially with the way he played at the end of that game. Pretty sure Kyle also didn't tell him to eat the sack or fumble the ball away...but yeah let's blame the OC who made you the league MVP.
Ryan is like another Peyton Manning. They will try to baby him and make sure he always has great talent around him on offense because they know he needs it.
From Roddy White and Michael Jenkins to Roddy White and Julio Jones to Julio Jones and Mohammad Sanu to Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley and Sanu...
Give me the QBs who can play without elite talent around him.

Poor Matt Ryan. Dude should have audibled if he didn't like the play calling. He's got 15 seconds after the mic cuts out. Garoppolo audibled on the QB sneak in 2017.

I don't think our offense will be a problem.
Kyle coaches the O, not the D and I'm concerned about the D.
So hopefully we get the defense and the defensive playcalls figured out going foreword.

IF anything it shows how dependent Quinn was of Kyle and that the only reason that team was even in the Super Bowl and had a chance to win it was because of him.
You really dont get it do you?? Brady wouldnt have been able to throw for 466 yards if Shannys offense had been able to stay on the field in the 2nd half.
Kyle choked on Quinn when it mattered most. He had Julio Jones, Matty Ice, Freeman, and couldnt even manage one score to put the game away?? And when he finally did catch a break and had a chance at a FG, he calls a dumb long developing pass play and gets sacked out of FG rangeThat L was all on Shanny and he knows it.
You could make that argument.
But ask McVay which experience he would rather have had.......losing the way the Falcons did or the way his own team did?
Shanahan wasn't perfect but my god did he put up points on the Patriots. I bet if he had the assassin named Jimmy Garoppolo instead of Matthew Ryan he'd already have his ring.
James can elevate when the chips are down beyond what Jared and Matthew can do.......I firmly believe this.

Agree - KS Put up points , just not enough
IMO, The Falcons D really lost it where the Ram D played well
BUT couldn't put up any more points but 3!

Falcons / Shanny put up enough points to win. Pats put up 13 points, that was enough to win.
Falcons defense blew it. Dan Quinn isn't a good HC and [dumb] fans won't ever realize or admit that.
Atlanta fired their OC...the offense / key weapons = never been the same since Shanny split.
Matt Ryan genuinely is a choker, he turns over the ball in big moments / games. Shanny gets the blame for lame duck HC / Ryan

That L was all on Shanny and he knows it.
