Wait a minute, if you are saying no one has an idea what Garoppolo is like due to the small sample size, then you have a better idea what a rookie QB from the draft is like when he hasn't played a down in the NFL?

And no you don't have to give Garoppolo a big contract just yet, you have the entire 2017 season to evaluate him. Hypothetically speaking, even if the 9ers weren't sure by the end of the 2017 season, they could still franchise tag him if they want.

Your not trading a 2nd overall pick if your not all in lol...part of a trade will be signing him man. There's no debating that.

You can't have it both ways lol. With a rookie qb you get leeway because well he's a rookie and he's cheap...JG is gonna be expected to go day 1 and get paid to do that....If He sucks and you let him go after two yrs PLUS lose the 2nd overall pick? lol any GM is getting fired over that s**t.

That's I why I think Lynch and Shanahan play it safe...Drafting a QB at 2 or a megatrade to get Grappalo is huge gamble especially when you are newly hired.

What is the safe move? Cutler or Hoyer? Either would make me skeptical of the new bunch.

Drafting a QB outside the first round is safe. I agree I'm skeptical of Cutler, Hoyer or Schaub, Gabbert etc. Cousins is not a FQB.. The jury is out Garrapolo..I wouldn't take a chance on him.

Let's face it ..The 49ers are not going to win now. Lynch himself said his weary of starting a Rookie, which means they have no plans to play a rookie this year (throw him in the fire). If so, they can't be in this next years QB class is better Ill wait mode..because that QB won't start either.
Philadelphia and Dallas started rookies. Now they each have a year under they're belt. I think the 49ers should go the route of drafting 2 QBs increasing they're chances of a find and start and develop him now. If they go the other route, in the next few years they'll be throwing in Fitzpatricks, Schaubs, and Hoyers and end up no where in revolving door of retreads.
.

It is safe if they can get their FQB in the second round or later, if they fail to get a FQB they will be failures. They might get a pass this year but they better have one on track by the end of 2018, getting a jump by identifying one this year would be the best bet.
The retread possibility worries me.

Garrapolo has less risk than trubs... would you take the risk of wasting a 2 on trubs?
JG is the biggest and costliness risk out this situation

They both said if you like a qb, you go get him don't worry about the cost. I believe thats what they will do with garrapolo. Or they will sign shaub or hoyer and wait for cousins. Im sure they will draft a qb on the second or 3rd day.

they said that? got a link? just curious...

because you don't have to spend top money on him...that's why. I doubt the draft a QB high this yr unless they fall in love with one.

I'd imagine they inquire about JG but not at the price of the 2nd overall pick.

A new deal with the trade isn't guaranteed. Trading for him allows you a free season at $1 million to see his true value in 2018...if he proves to be the QBOTF then you show him the money...if you're not certain you have the Franchise tag for two more years.

You telling me SF will not be talking to JG's agents about his long term plans during this whole discussion? Dude that will be a big part of it. No team is trading for him if they don't have an idea on his long term plans. And if he says I don't know will his vlaue goes wayyyyy down

Sure, they can talk about it. But, I doubt it will be agreed by the time the trade takes place.

Then it won't get done. No one is giving away picks without locking him up first.

This it's pretty simple actually

Hoyer! Cutler would sour the entire team and turn the offense into whiners.

I'd be on board wit Hoyer.. but I'd pay to see Cutler,Shanahan and Lynch in a room all together if Bears grant us permission.
I seriously cannot believe it has come to this, where people are legitimately arguing whether Hoyer or Shaub is a better fit to be our starting quarterback. These times....SMH.

We're not winning any Super Bowls any time soon. This is simply about getting someone with a modicum of competence to play the position while we build that Super Bowl team.

That's what happens when you draft one qb in the top 4 rds since 2005.
