Bingo! Like I have been saying all along, I believe when is all said and done, a 1st will get it done.

Well yeah a 1st would get it done lol...NE would take the 2nd overall pick in a heartbeat that doesn't mean that's what has to be offered to get a deal done. That's the whole point.

Doesn't matter, nothing has changed. His points are still valid.
Maybe trade our 2nd round pick this year and conditional 2nd/3rd next year for Jimmy G.

Then, draft Mahomes or Peterman in the 4th round as our developmental rookie.

Sign Schaub as backup vet who knows the offense.

QB1: Garappolo
QB2: Schaub
QB3: Mahomes/Peterman

Why has nothing changed? People are starting to figure out Romo is gonna be gone, Taylor is gonna be gone, the draft is starting to take shape and QBs always get pushed up as the process gets going.

Lot's has changed and probably more down the road.

I just gave you an update from yesterday, Ben Volin who's been covering NE (Boston Globe) saying they will most likely end up with a 2nd. IF a team wants to go all in and give a top 1st I'm sure NE would laugh all the way to the bank....from what he said it's not gonna require that much though.

If you or some team wants to grossly overvalue him go ahead, it's like saying a soda is a $1, but you want to give them $5 bucks just because.

it's sales 101 NE throws out some stupid high value teams give them some stupid low value and they meet in the middle, it's also gonna come down to if JG wants to actually sign with the team long term.

See this makes a TON of sense this could totally happen. Not sure they draft a QB that high if they get JG though. I'd love to move down in the 1st (if myles is gone) as well in this scenario.

His rationale is spot on IMHO. Now, will a team actually give up a top 5 overall pick for him? That's for another discussion.

Nope. The difference is the Pats might not "mind" taking a 2nd + something else, but in reality they will probably end up getting a 1st due to the competitive situation.

Is kind of this, a friend of mine wanted a Lamborghini Aventador when it first came out, but the waiting list was 2 years, so what did he do? He bought it from a dealer and paid a slight premium for it and he got his car. So, similarly, if the teams in question deem Garoppolo as their guy, they will attempt to outbid the next team in order to land him.

Again, remember "if the guy is your guy" then it will supercede any value system. We are talking about a franchise QB here and if you are convinced he is the guy then no price is too high. You think is BS, then you can find your own version of Jared Goff in the draft. I wanted Jared Goff last year and I can't argue with Schlereth that the jury is still out on the guy. Plus, if you are sh*t at drafting anyway like the Browns, then you are almost certainly better off by taking Garoppolo like Schlereth said.

I'd be sooooo for this! Peterman WAY over Mahomes though.

He'll be 26 this season. If he is your long term franchise QB, you better be right if you are going to trade the house to NE. Basically handing NE 2-3 more titles.

That depends on whether the teams in question really see him as their guy. If you believe you have found your FQB (whether you turn out to be right or wrong), you go for it, is really that simple.

Plus, otherwise what else would you be doing with that pick? Basically, you would be using it in the draft to take a QB anyway and hoping he will be at least as good as Garoppolo.

So, that will depend on whether you are more sure about Garoppolo or a QB in the draft who hasn't played a down in the NFL.
It's unlikely NE will get a 1st since all the teams bidding for him ate in the lower half in the draft. Even Clv is scoffing at giving them the 12th pick. They'll probably have to settle for 2 2nds.

I wouldn't mind swapping 1st rounders with them though because it is a p poor draft class. Too many people ate relying on being able to trade out. No one is giving the farm up for a 1 year starter 6'1 qb. If we were to swap with NE you don't lose a pick in the next 2 drafts

The difference is he knew how a Lamborghini performs there's a long history of it...he KNEW the type of car he was getting and was willing to give up that extra money. We have no idea if he's gonna be a Lamborghini or a solid Honda, there simply isn't enough film to make that decision. That's the reason why you can take a chance on a rookie QB, the money makes it work...signing a big contract with little to go off is stupid and risky and the Texans just saw that.

We aren't a QB away from being good and need our top premium picks for the future of the franchise.

There's no one on this staff that has any past experience with Jimmy G to say "hey he's our guy" no one to vouch for him sort of speak. The Browns have a totally different FO and HC, plus they are mainly run by analytics....that would go against how money ball is run. Personally, I don't even think he's a great fit for Hue's vertical threat offense. Hue loves his athletic QB's with cannon arms, I could see them bringing in Taylor/Kap then drafting Watson or Kizer with that 12th pick just as easy.

We will see, I can see the Bears and us being the main teams just based on scheme fit. Texans might be a dark horse but the owner has already put the kibosh on that.

There will be a ton of talking at the combine.

Agreed, all it takes is one team willing to do it. Like he said, if JG declared today, where would he fall in this QB class? Obviously, he'd be #1. So yes, I could see a number of teams willing to not only go that route for him, but also Cousins if he ends up being on the market as well. Right or wrong, this could very well end up a reality and fans better get prepared for it.

I just posted this morning (Post #467): http://www.49erswebzone.com/forum/niners/183709-the-key-to-fixing-49ers/page32/ on how much we as fans overvalue draft picks; provided real-world results.

Like NY said, Kyle/Lynch will place a value on both Cousins and JG and stick to that. They'll review the current QB draft class and do the same. Like I've been saying in the Peterman thread, they may see HIM as the best fit for their #1 FQB (starts in year 2 or 3 like Cousins did/4th rounder) and therefore, go a totally different route at #2.

So, this is absolutely wide open and it can go any number of different directions, right or wrong, just b/c of the current circumstances/market. I certainly don't have the answer.
