Lynch: Elway or Millen? Love it or hate it

Also, we should keep in mind that since Kyle will have the last say-so on draft & FA picks the traditional GM role is somewhat diminished.

IMO, it will largely depend on exactly what Lynch's responsibilities are.

Most of us were in agreement, prior to this, that Kyle is a very bright and innovative guy.

IF he was "All-In" on Lynch then he must envision how they will work together in the future and told Lynch what he wanted.

Too early to tell, Ill reserve judgement:

well we hired Tomsula with no HC experience and that didnt work out.. I hope this does.. i was really thinking we would go out and get someone who is seasoned and experienced..

Don't forget the vastly under qualified hall of famer Singletary who was mainly chosen for his "Leadership". If his only asset is leadership, there's has to be a LOT of other candidates with leadership that have at least some experience.

History goes to show, especially in the NFL, that hiring guys with no prior experience either as a GM or HC, doesn't work out that often. Right now this is an awful hire. And if Lynch fails, I really can't blame him, our idiot owner gave him the job.

I think a lot of it will come down to getting great guys around Lynch. Baalke didn't need as much supporting/personnel guys but my grade schooler had better communication skills. Hopefully Lynch can be the face of the 49ers conduit and we can have some personnel guys with more authority (ala green bay and denver) to advise the GM on free agency/draft issues.

I know a lot of fans are a bit displeased with Lynch's appointment but seriously, you know Shanahan is calling the shots. I think he wanted a guy that he could work with, trust, and had a brain in his head. Lynch is a smart guy, hopefully that translates to the position... but honestly, the draft will be a product of the scouting team... The Baalke/GM picks all day's are over.

This can cut both ways... but this is the Nolan situation all over again. They had a lot of good picks and acquisitions, but Nolan's attitude was for s**t. Kyle seems to be cut from the same cloth... but will most likely get a longer leash. I hope this works out.

While the final decision is 2-3 years down the road, I like the hire.

Every organization needs a special person that can set the tone, cast the vision and attract quality people around him. I have worked with 3 modest-size corporations in my life and in each case, there was that central person who dictated the culture just by their presence. They were not micro-managers. They were "big pictures" guys that left individual details to others. They just had a certain "it" factor that motivated others to reach higher. Lynch seems to be that kind person.

His inexperience does cast a question but if he can attract the kind of people the organization needs to get the work done, then he will have fulfilled his main job of changing the culture from this dismal melodrama we have endured for too long to something vital and dynamic.

The Tomsula hire seems light years away from Lynch. Lynch is just different in more ways than I can count.

This organization needed something more than just the standard template GM. It needed to be shaken completely. Ron Wolf's son does not have that kind of impact. He is the standard template, albeit a good one. Lynch isn't anybody's son. He is different and that is what we need, IMO.
