Lynch said why trade for Nelson when we got one already here..

They are gonna have to extend Puni this offseason, so yeah, it probably was part of the equation. No team is paying both OGs top dollar.

We don't pay guards period. We'll let Puni walk after next year. We have Willis and Colby ready to take over as the two starting guards (though they may be grooming Willis to be the next center).

We always say the same and then in playoffs or the Super Bowl a great D-line always remind us that the interior or our O-line isn't good enough to win a SB.

I'm looking at you Colby/Brendel

There no way we could have made Nelson the highest paid guard in the league at over 25 mil a year and kept this team together.
I don't think you understand how the cap works in terms of restructuring and cap management. We could absolutely afford Nelson.

For one, there's no way Bosa carries a $54M cap hit next year. He will either be restructured or traded.

I don't think you do. They have Puni to pay also. Do you think they are committing that much money to the guard position?

Exactly this.

I don't want us restructuring a bunch of injury prone players. That's how you get into cap hell.

This gives me hope that we will extend him since you're pretty much wrong about everything.

2 First picks for Wilson and we will defintely be SB favs along with having a legit WR1 for Brock for next 3-5 years (Evans as a WR2 will be able to play longer). There is no guarantee DRob and Deebo are even coming back after the bye. I never want to see Watkins, Cowing, and esp Cooks on the field again this year.

Our only great first round pick since 2017 has been the no brainer Bosa. Every single other pick failed to live up to the hype of a 1st rounder. The late round picks in 2027 and 2028 are far more likely to be busts than superstars. We pick way better in the later rounds anyways.

Agree 💯 %, i think they will do better if they pick Trey Down with that 2027 first pick. Especially if we go deep in the playoffs this year. That first pick will be worth at most a 2nd round pick anyway.

I think first round picks are really only valuable if you can pick in the top 10 of the first round. If you aren't picking in the first ten picks, I think trading down is more valuable to the 49ers - the strength of their drafts are usually in the middle to later rounds anyway. The more shots you have in the middle rounds the more chances you get another Halton, Puni, Stout, Warner, or Kittle.

There is a lot of truth to this. Most teams only have a first round grade on 10-15 players in most drafts. Thats why you see a lot of 'reaches" in the mid to late part of the draft but they aren't really reaches in team's eyes because they didnt have a first round grade on the available players so they picked what fit them the most.

And the later you pick the worse the odds get in hitting on a pick. So if you can trade a late first round pick and get a proven pro bowl caliber player that you can lock down to a long term contract then to me its a no brainer. You'd have to have cap room of course and thats probably the main reason you don't see this more often.

Trading down is a garbage strategy. Just pick the best guys that fit our system and strategy. The only reason the strength of 49ers drafts is in the middle rounds is because those are the picks made by the scouts while Lynch (and Kyle) makes the Day 1 and Day 2 picks.

Usually when they let position coaches pick their guys we get gems (Dugger, Halton, Purdy, Huff etc).

If the 49ers FO was honest with themselves and let everyone stay in their own lanes our drafts would be better. Kyle should basically only pick WR's and late round RBs. John should only pick safeties.

After the first 10 or 15 picks the talent level really starts to even out. There may be a top 10 talent that slips down to the bottom of the round because of an injury or some issue but by and large the blue chip guys are gone after the top 15.

If they can't score with this. What are you doing as a coach.

Evans
Deebo
Robinson
Strib
Kirk
Watkins
Cowing
----------------------
Kittle
McCaffrey
Juszczyk

And if some say they get hurt. What are the odds that they give up great picks and Garrett Wilson gets hurt too. Yes, exactly!
