Part of it is it's the offseason.
But also, I do think it's worse than usual, and I think a big part of that is the elephant in the room:
Watching the Seahawks—who just completed a very quick rebuild—storm all the way to another Super Bowl win so easily in our stadium with so little resistance (aside from the Rams—ironically another division rival) probably broke this fanbase. Especially after watching this team get to 7 NFC Championships, 3 Super Bowls (including a 10-point mid-4th quarter lead and another lead in OT) and have zero rings to show for it. Meanwhile our hated rival just casually and coolly did it on their first try with no previous adversity aside from a wild card playoff loss to us in 2023. And all their obnoxious fans who can't even name their new QB got to enjoy a second SB win already.
The pessimism is a bit out of control, I agree. But I get it. I totally get it.
The Seahawks deserve the plaudits for being worthy champions last season, as much as it pains to admit it. But last year was a very unusual showing in the NFL, with a very poor crop of true title contenders. Pretty sure any of our previously Superbowl-threatening teams of recent years would have strolled through last seasons teams just like the Seahawks did. They got a bit lucky in that respect. Not to nullify their achievement though - they showed up when nobody else did.
It always takes some luck to win when you're facing teams that are as good or better than you. You need to get a few breaks on the field and avoid injuries. A call that goes your way at a key moment. It can mean the difference between winning and losing in a close game.
Thanks Madden.
You're welcome. Hey I know that might seem obvious but reading some of the posts makes me wonder. They want every free agent that's good and every draft pick that's a stud. Then they want to win the SB every year. All nice thoughts but the real world isn't as easy as that. Some fans seem to forget that.
Thanks for the input but you are dead wrong , Super Bowl should be the goal every season for the San Francisco 49ers, anything other than that is accepting mediocrity like glynch does
That's different. Having a goal of winning is fine. Expecting it and criticizing everyone involved when thye don't win is silly.
