Drafting will always be a bit of a crap shoot, however, the failure rate of high draft picks over the years cannot be ignored.

The challenge will be how much authority Kyle Shanahan will be given in the selection process. AS HC, he must be allowed a significant amount but how much?

Which is why I would like someone like Kokinis. Over the past 20 years, Baltimore has been one of the most consistent teams at finding value in the draft and hitting on picks. They have a good system in place, they tend to focus on value and letting the draft come to them, they never seen to get too desperate or panic and their record of success have continued through multiple GMs and Kokinis was there for most of it. He could provide a brand new approach and philosophy that the 49ers seem to need when it comes to their earlier draft picks and free agency as a whole.

If not him then someone else from out of that organization who has been around long enough to have a good grasp on their overall approach.

I wonder if there's any truth to this. It sounds like pure speculation, but maybe?

I wonder who they'd bring in…

Nolan Teasley from the Seahawks

This would be amazing.

Lynch's days are done. He's made too many mistakes.

Get in an experienced GM who calls all the shots and Shanahan sticks to coaching only.

I agree with this, he not getting a new contract unless we win the Super Bowl , that's the only way I see him back

Yea but to miss that many first round picks is alarming , any other gm would have been fired already, if it was Eddie D , lynch would have been fired

Not sure I believe it.

You don't believe they are considering the move or you don't believe it will happen ?

A little bit of both. It's probably something in between. They almost never do anything extreme.

They may be considering a change and that change may be coming from Lynch himself. Being GM is a big job and he may be tired of ll the things that go with it. I could seehim moving into a different position.

No matter what happens I'm not losing any sleepover it. Changes in coaches and GMs happen all the time in sports. Sometimes tems ge tbetter and sometimes they get worse.

Hiring a coach or GM is a crapshoot. Just like the draft.

I feel like nowadays, the draft is less of a crap shoot than it's ever been, in some ways. While no one is ever going to be perfect, I think there's more than one way to fail at drafting. If you get 5 solid players and another GM gets one superstar, two solid players, and two duds, the one who got the superstar wins IMO.

Strategy is so huge. We haven't optimized value at all.

It's maddening the amount of plug and play players we pass on that go on to star elsewhere. Our strategy seems so backwards.

Potential is factored as if it's already been realized. How else do you wind up taking Banks over Creed Humphrey, or Pearsall over Zach Frazier? Or Jake Moody over everyone..
In reading that article, instead of Lance, can you imagine Micah Parsons with Bosa and Comapny! WOW! Can only dream! Hope he does not screw the pooch on this year's draft but I don't have a lot of confidence in either Lynch or Shanahan. Saw Harris Barton playing at the AT&T Golf torunament and could only think about the O linemen Walsh would draft and plug in, it was a magical time and SB Rings! I can dream but I have to see results to have hope. Good Luck my Friends! Go Niners!

I was hoping, after hearing Kyle admit to his offense being pathetic vs the Seahawks, that they would indeed make some changes. They need bigger, faster & better players to compete. I hope they inquire about Teasley. Seahawks are interviewing Fleury for OC.
I totally agree with you on the last paragraph getting the center from the Ravens and Gray and Doubs from the Packers and KC in the draft,Pierce is not going anywhere the Colts will sign him.

You also have to consider that we may not have drafted Purdy if they had taken Jones at #12. If he had worked out okay they probably wouldn't have been looking for another young QB. More likely would have just signed a veteran backup.
I think a move like this is exactly what most fans would want. Hire someone to take over GM duties. Doesn't necessarily mean fire Lynch but a new person in charge of the draft is certainly needed.

I really hope it's true.

He needs a QB to stay on schedule and make proper reads like Kirk Cousns. Lance is not that guy but Mac Jones is.

Shanahan hated the Trey Lance pick 100%. It's why he didn't let him throw when he played and called designed QB keepers. He had no trust in him.

Yeah!

In the last five years, John lynch hasn't drafted a single player that would start on this year's Seattle Seahawks. How was he not relieved of his duties for 2023 alone?

I used the exact same team, the Ravens, as a team that knows how to draft. I did get a bit shredded on here for stating this but then many Niner fans on here are a bit odd to say the least.

But I completely agree with your thought process. Ravens are a perfect example of a team that lets the draft come to them. They don't reach and they tend to take BAP. This is exactly the approach/technique that has been lacking with John "the Reach" Lynch and his draft room.

Brock Purdy would be starting. This is hyperbole
