What's hilarious is that Lynch tried to imitate the Rams' strategy by getting younger on defense. The results have been horrendous thus far. The entire draft class combined hasn't had the impact that Jared Verse had in his rookie season. Williams and Collins have been average at best. Stout, Sigle, and (the 2025 Kory Sheets award winner) CJ West have done nothing.
And that's not even mentioning the fact that last year's draft class is starting to also look like a miss, with Puni regressing, Green getting beat like a drum, Cowing always being hurt, and Guerendo never seeing the field. Pearsall is good when healthy, and Mustapha is average—a heavy-hitter who takes bad angles and can't cover.
Lynch has survived this long because of a handful of selections early in his tenure—namely Warner, Kittle, and Bosa—which covered up his frequent blunders. Those guys, however, are nearing the end of their primes. And the cupboard looks bare.
I'm guessing Lynch is the ultimate scapegoat over the next few seasons. Kyle will eventually follow.
