No reason to trade for a guy this year unless he'll be apart of the team long-term. This isn't a year to make an Emmanuel Sanders or Chase Young type trade. We're not 1-2 players away from contending.

We are now literally tied for best record in the NFL for at least 4 days.

Why shouldn't this team consider itself in the hunt?

I would consider these reasons at least for why it might be premature to say we're in the hunt:

- Our best defensive player is out for the season. As a result, we haven't been able to pressure the QB at all. The only good QB we faced without Bosa easily tore us up.
- Our starting QB is hurt with no clear timetable on his return.
- We haven't gone a single game without losing 1-2 starters to injury. There's no real reason other than pure hope to think our injury problems are going to slow down.
- All of our wins have been 1 score games with 1-2 plays deciding the outcome. That's a little fluky.
- We can't run the ball worth a damn and it doesn't feel easily fixable.
- Our backup QB is also banged up, has a PCL issue, and has been getting hit a lot with our only other backup QB being a guy that wasn't on the team during training camp.
- Most analytics have our offense and defense in the middle of the pack in terms of DVOA and EPA.

I'm sure there are other reasons. Of course, all of these might change (other than the Bosa one) as the season continues.

The Bosa injury is literally WHY you trade for Hendrickson, though. Need a rental who's only under contract for this season to fill in that hole while it's empty? Then Hendrickson is your guy.

Honestly the only one I agree with is the running game one but that very well could be because Kittle is missing.

I don't want to invest legit trade capital for a rental though. If Hendrickson is the guy, then plan to sign him long term. IMO that's why going for someone else makes more sense. Younger, cheaper, long term value and won't cost as much.

This.....accept trade Aiyuk for draft capital. Just need to get him on the field and show he is healthy.

I don't deny that this is what is the most likely thing we will do. But I don't think it is what we should do: striking earlier rather than wait for the deadline makes more sense if we're sitting at 5-1 but with a bunch of tough injuries. People assume that BA will be the same receiver he was before the injury when he gets back. Perhaps he will be long term, but I can't see him being effective this year. Turf toes and hamstrings are also debilitating long-terms niggles with significant chances of setbacks, as our history shows: not just Purdy now, but also Willis and the Seattle receiver we got as a FA in the 2000s - forget his name now. Hamstrings sound innocuous, but like adductor injuries take forever to clear up for many people, and are tricky AF not to reinjure.

Right now the team can afford to sit tight for one more week. Our record is a bit fraudulent: we could have easily started 0-5 had the chips fallen the wrong way, a bit like 2010 when we were there or thereabouts for many games but still started 0-and-I don't remember how many. If we beat a legitimate-looking team like Tampa away, or if we blow some weaker opponent out for a change, then we are legit and we can't afford to hope that our injured players will come back soon and in a good enough shape to help out.

Teams have to be willing to sell. Always hard to know when that is exactly.

Philly could easily be 0-5 too.

Hey this is a family website.

Don't you think the Rams were a proven test? Them and the Iggles are talked about as the powerhouses of the NFC and we just went into their house and beat them. And oh yea we have a history of being a pretty good team the last 5 years or so. This is extremely promising that we may be legit this year and back on top once we are relatively healthy again.

Hendrickson a Niner yet?
All this talk about trying to get another edge rusher made me think back to the early days of free agency. Great players who were nearing the end of thier careers all wanted to come to SF and get a SB ring. Eddie D was more than willing to pay them for a few yeqrs. Chris Doleman. Kevin Greene. Deion Sanders. Ricky Jackson. Richard Dent. They were juast some of the big name players that the Niners signed while trying to stay on top. All ended up in ther HOF.

We've always welcomed old players who wants to win one before they retire.. knowing they can somehow help when needed most..

NOT ANYMORE !!

Brick By Brick Brothers all about developing young talent to earn a good draft grade even it we get a big fat L in the Super Bowl...
No D-line sacks since Bosa went down!

Yes he was. He only played 2 games. I presume he was injured but he managed to get 2 sacks. For Silky's benefit he was on that great Bears defense from 1985. Chris Doleman was a 6'5" 290 lb DE that came from the Vikings. He racked up 11, 12 nd 15 sacks at the age of 35, 36 and 37 and forced 11 fumbles in 48 games with the Niners.

It wasn't just about Eddie D's willingness to sign these guys. The Niners were the premier team of that era and players wanted to come here the way baseball players want to go to the Dodgers. Not just because they were winning so much but because of the way Eddie D treated the players. Lavish parties in the off season. Better hotels on road trips. First class all the way.
