I don't think they would go for a center early regardless. For them to do it they would have to be a lock to be a long term center for the team.

But I agree I believe they are taking the best player available when they draft early, they just haven't been lucky in getting to their pick and having their top player be an offensive lineman very often. I think, since Lynchahan have been in charge the Eagles have only spent one more pick in the 3rd and up than the 49ers, they have just done a better job finding or developing the players (or been a little more lucky on who has been on the board when they have picked).

We are a young, oft injured, and inexperienced team at this point. This is not the quest for 6, this is a learning season.

The first one (81) was in much worse shape going in ... but they were the start of a dynasty.

I'm not sure if I would say the 81 squad was in worse shape than this team.

Good lord were they.

How many past pro-bowls total do you think there were in their starting offense?

Charle Young had 3 - 8 years earlier.

That is literally it. The only pro-bowler on the starting offense hadn't been in several seasons, and 3 teams ago for him.

On defense Hacksaw Reynolds had 2 for the Rams.

The current 49ers roster is SO much stronger than the 81 team.

The pro bowl actually meant something back then so I hear you. The young guys on that squad came threw big time!

Absolutely ... They had 2 future hall of famers on there, but they didn't know that yet. Who knows, this 49ers team might have a few too ... actually Trent is already a 1st ballot HOFer, Kittle is well on his way, CMC and Bosa have a decent shot. We don't know what will happen, but we know there is a lot of potential in this roster.

If you look at how many of the starters on that 81 team didn't even make the roster in 82 (let alone 84), it's clear they knew they were weak.

I'm not a big fan of all these late round trades. That's our bread and butter. It's where we get our best players. If Lynch was smart he would trade our 1st and 2nd round picks. That's what we should do. Because we never hit on those anyway. For the most part anyway. I'd rather have mid and late round picks for this team. It seems to be the only picks they hit on. Which is sad. Wish that wasn't the case. But it is.

I know what will we do without all those Jarrett Kingston, Brayden Willis, Tariq Castro-Fields, Kaden Smith etc players

Kingston has been getting positive reviews from the Panthers ... and has been playing center. I know of another team that's been looking for a new center for a while.
What team is that? it clearly isn't the 49ers.

The 49ers have tried 6 players at C in the last few years. They just keep ending up with the same solution.
Brendel has been the starter for the last few years ago who else have they tried?

In practice. Moss, Hennessy, Zakelj, Nugent, Brunskill, Bartch, Gutierez, Luciano, Colby, all got some snaps and coaching at Center in the Brendel time. And I'm sure I forgot some.

By the way, after Richburg, there was one season of Garland and one of Mack before Brendel. They've been looking for a center for a WHILE.
So no serious competition for the position whatsoever.

They haven't been looking very hard they had ample opportunity to upgrade the position two years ago in a loaded draft.

Brendel was a UDFA. EVERYONE they try is serious competition. And Hennessy was a 3rd round pick.

I say Kittle is already a H.O.F, only question is 1st ballot or not. That's just my opinion.

He changed the game with TEU
$15M a year is super cheap for a starting RT. Impressive signing - hope he doesn't pull a JJ
It's interesting because I feel like none of our defensive rookies stood out (maybe Sigle?) yet our defense as a whole played really well. Only 13 points allowed, two forced turnovers and Seattle's only TD coming on a 4th down DPI. Only 280 yards. You take that performance every time.

I know it's only one game and they're all rookies but I just wished we saw more from the guys individually. This is arguably the most important draft class of this regime from a "keep our current window alive/open a new window in the future" standpoint. We NEED these picks to be hits. But hey, if the defense has a game like yesterday for most of the season then I wouldn't really complain.

I thought our defense got pushed around, but I guess you are right "bend but don't break"

Some of them certainly were. There were CLEARLY growing pains still happening.
