Now they need to fix that o line to the best it can be..
I am not sure that was the plan all along. Jimmy G didn't have to accept the contract restructuring and forced the team to released him.
Though I do think Kyle and Lynch was disappointed with Sudfeld's performance in training camp and preseason.

He found a pretty good solution to a very difficult problem. That's a good GM. I like what he's doing lately.

I don't hate the move but….
it's unprecedented. And usually when that happens it's bad.
hey Lynch. The WHOLE point of drafting a cheap QB is so that you can maximize the roster elsewhere. That's why you should have cut Jimmy as soon as you could.
how's our IOL depth looking?
hows our safety depth looking?
niners lead the league in doing things that no one else does. And that's great because we've won so many rings lately. 🤦♂️

Those are two separate issues. Even if they carried the 3 best QB's on the planet, they'd still not see their deficiencies on the OL and S positions.
Maybe they will in 2023?

Not true. They'll see the OL defincies just fine and address it. Whether they address it properly is anyone's guess.
They won't address safety tho

Well they should bring Tartt back now. I'll take him over Gibson since he knows the D

If nothing else happens we just bought a comp pick for the contract JG is likely going to sign next year
This was a very creative GM move and only possible if the team/player are on good terms

False. Cut Jimmy, eat 8 or whatever million due to injury/surgery stuff.
Pay Laken, have Banks compete for RG spot or release him if he's a total bum.
Boom, you solved one problem with Jimmys money. And probably have a few more dollars leftover to throw at an adequate safety. Wasn't too hard, was it ?

They could have paid for Laken regardless.

I've been a huge fan since the day he was signed. Knows all the NFL players (from days in broadcast booth), smart, tough DB who earned his own SB ring, extremely well spoken ( unhh…anyone recall our last GM?), is sharp as a tack, keeps everything close to his vest, has a former great players' ability to judge talent…both O & D, , and then lastly, figuring out the answer to this former Gordian's knot of what to do w/ JG, while being sure to take care of the 49ers first…yet by being fair to jimmy, but at the same time, insuring the QB slot with a QB starter as our backup at QB…as well as setting us up for a very beneficial trade if a SB contender has their QB go down.
For all the above, way to go big John…and thanks

Laken ain't what's hurting us…as you well know, RT is. We got 3 starters at OG (Banks, Burford, & Poe) and a " cluster" at RT.
