Not necessarily. Drafting another running back could be used to give Sermon a push, a little extra motivation. We'll see come pre season who wins the rb2 role.

Agree, however, Sermon's rookie season was disappointing. With the loss of Mostert, the 49ers needed depth at the RB position, and so they got it. This guy is going to (hopefully) get Trey out of 2nd and longs to more manageable 3rd and shorts. I like the power and tackle breaking skills he has to be able to help put away teams in the 2nd half via running opposing teams to the ground and bleeding the clock. This could be also more of an Anthony Lynn vs a Kyle Shanahan pick. As for Sermon, I think it's too soon to call him a bust. Now if he's not broken into the starting lineup beginning of regular season, I'll be agreeing on the bust label for Trey Sermon.

RB and WR pick both insurance and roster replacements in case deebo stays home, got to dump Jimmy to pay Deebo

Simple as that. This dude was targeted as an UDFA in a consensus mock (across what, 50 draft boards?). Had they taken a player like this in the 5th-UDFA for a "part time" role, that's perfect.

Take a 1K snap player in the 3rd. OL, S or SCB.

Lol mock drafts. I'm sure the 49ers have better insider knowledge into what other teams are targeting/doing than a bunch of people on the internet making mock drafts - even the media personalities have extremely limited insight to draft boards.

Just hoping that as Trey Sermon took a while in college to get into gear, that applies to the NFL and over the next 2 years, he gets to really show up.
I guess we can all agree that the JG poker game was severely lost by the 49ers.
It's time to just cut the losses, and let JG go, so that they can potentially get some OL (and/or some secondary) help and pay the necessary players.

The team is not going to win the SB w/ JG. So, it may as well hand the reins to TL, and see where he can take us over the next few years.

I think he's a solid player, but RB just isn't a big need for us...Kyle is constantly finding guys in the late rounds and turns them into studs. It's a waste of a 3rd round pick when we have much bigger needs at DB/OL.

Dude, screw what these draft boards say, I trust what the 49ers do, and if they f**k up I'll point it out, like with Solly at 3, Foster at 31, and Joe Williams in 4th, just to name a few.

Do you point out their tendency to massively lock-in and overdraft players and even move up and give picks away to get them and then point that out when it doesn't work out? I don't remember that. Sorry if you had.

We're just talking value here. Finding dime RB's late is a proven skill they have. Drafting high is not (Sermon, Joe). Also, this is a split role at best and we had 1K starter needs that are far more urgent.

The player and his role seem fine though. But value when compared to team needs to help get us over the hump?
Overall given where we were drafting and the picks we had to work with I actually dig this draft and the UDFAs we got.

*Drake proceeds to bust while every other pick becomes the only Pro Bowler(s) in their respective rounds*
