Not necessarily. Drafting another running back could be used to give Sermon a push, a little extra motivation. We'll see come pre season who wins the rb2 role.
Agree, however, Sermon's rookie season was disappointing. With the loss of Mostert, the 49ers needed depth at the RB position, and so they got it. This guy is going to (hopefully) get Trey out of 2nd and longs to more manageable 3rd and shorts. I like the power and tackle breaking skills he has to be able to help put away teams in the 2nd half via running opposing teams to the ground and bleeding the clock. This could be also more of an Anthony Lynn vs a Kyle Shanahan pick. As for Sermon, I think it's too soon to call him a bust. Now if he's not broken into the starting lineup beginning of regular season, I'll be agreeing on the bust label for Trey Sermon.
