  • Kyle Shanahan has provided very detail accounts of what he is specifically looking for from each position (including defense, of which Lynch was very impressed with) so that those players can fit into the whole system perfectly (i.e. very Bill & Bill-like)
  • WR's are very hard to evaluate b/c they only run a couple routes these days (d/t the spread offensive trends) so you have to project based on certain "traits"
  • QB, same concept (I detailed Kyle's check list of ideals several times); the first 6 QB's are all expected to be spread QB's
  • Then he also touches on OL, for this same concept (Baalke noted the same).
  • So this spread/air raid trend in college is really making it harder to project into the NFL so teams are forced to project based on certain traits

As a result, my guestimate is that we'll hit FA much harder for the following positions this year:
  • Bridge QB's
  • OL
  • WR's

In the draft, we'll probably target way more on defense:
  • ER, NT, ILB, CB & S

So buy the ready-made offense in free agency and draft the defense. A QB like Trubisky may still be drafted (as well as a fit-QB like Peterman) b/c of the specific traits or pro-style college experience that translate well into the WCO but expect years of development still (2-3 years at least) before they see the field.

Good stuff man. ShanaLynch really seem to get it. They've already canned the Strength and Conditioning staff, got some respected talent evaluators in here, cut Kaepernick, changed to a 4-3 under, moved Ward to FS, etc. So far so good.

Report: 49ers to 'go hard' for Alshon Jeffery

Cooks on one side, Alshon on the other...

LEHS FKN GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know... I don't know how I feel about Jeffery. He's talented and entering his prime, but he's relatively brittle, hasn't had a 1,000+ yard season since 2014. Not to mention he recently got busted.

Would I be excited to get him? Sure. We're badly deprived of WR talent and he's only 27. But I don't want to have to spend more than what the Bengals are paying AJ Green but it might be necessary to lure him in.

I agree, but we'll need reputable WRs if we want to attract QBs like Kirk to come here!

It sort of depends. I would imagine he's so counted on in Chicago, getting busted was a calculated risk to take PED's to get back as quickly as possible. But that needs to be investigated for sure.

Plus you can also trade back (a bit) and draft Mike Williams to slowly groom as well. Size, speed and shiftiness at all three WCO WR positions.

Truly. So nice to get back to our Bill Walsh (WCO) and 4-3 under (Seifert) ways.

We have just got to spend that first round pick on a can not miss elite difference maker linebacker or pass rusher.. we have got to get the cornerstone of our defense. what aldon was supposed to be. what bowman should have been but no sure bet he is coming back at 100 per cent

we are not getting cousins in my opinion this year . but there are still some better than respectable vets we can get this year to fill the gap until. a draft pick this year blossoms or maybe we get a great qb next year in free agency

I wonder about value here because of the injury history and the PED suspension. How much was PED's versus not?

I'd take the risk. He's still young, about to enter his prime. I can deal with the injury history because when healthy he is highly productive. He's a legit #1 WR, Shanahan would make good use of him.

Problem is we won't be paying him like he had a down year. Probably gets 14 mill or so a year when he deserves 10-12 mill. So long as we can keep the signing bonus low and maybe have incentives tied into the 14 mill average then I'm good with the risk.

I'll take him for $14M a year, honestly. Not confidently, but I think it would be worth it.

If we could somehow get him for $13M or less that would be awesome, but we're not exactly a good team so we'll have to overpay.

Yeah, but given our cap flexibility its a non-issue. $12 mil or 14 mil doesn't matter so much to me. I'm not going to lose out on Jeffery over $2 mil per year. I'd also bet we get more value and production out of Jeffery for that price than Torrey Smith at $8 mil per season.
