Aaron Lynch?

That's the first player that came to my mind.

Rg3 ran for over 800 yds that 2012 rookie season with 7 Tds. How much of that was designed or just natural ability I couldn't say. But I can say he looked damn good with Shanahan as his OC.

For the season, Griffin set records for highest passer rating by a rookie quarterback (102.4) and highest touchdown to interception ratio (4:1) (Both since broken by Dak Prescott). Aside from the week 15 game against the Cleveland Browns where he did not play, Griffin played a vital role in helping the Redskins finish the regular season on a 7-game winning streak after starting the season 3–6, leading the team to its first playoff appearance since the 2007 season.

Nah, Mike and Kyle were forced to pick RGIII by the owner...they got "their" QB later in round 4 (Kirk Cousins). Kyle goes to the Browns and goes through an identical situation there with Manziel and quickly gets out of there.

New 49ers GM John Lynch said the team will create an extra "competitiveness and toughness grade" in the hopes of finding prospects "who love football the most."

It is not a revolutionary concept, as it screams "coach speak" and is somewhat expected from a former player. We will never know how much this impacts the team's final decision, but you can surmise that the club will not draft players with questions around their passion for the game. The full interview is interesting, as Lynch adds the team's quarterback search could continue into 2018.

Grading "competitiveness and toughness" is going to be a very subjective process. There are only limited ways to quantity such characteristics with much of any degree of objectivity. Never-the-less, I think it is important to try and Lynch might be a guy who can make those kinds of subjective assessments with some "accuracy". I wish Baalke had had such a "competitiveness and toughness" grading system because then there's a good chance he would have (should have) NOT drafted A.J. Jenkins in the first round in 2012. A.J. Jenkins in like the poster boy for why a grading system on "competitiveness and toughness" is an important thing to try to do.

Thats just speculation. Rg3 was the consensus #2 pick in the draft behind Andrew Luck. Dont kid yourself, he had a record breaking rookie campaign for a reason.

Can you show me proof to support your claims? In the words of John Lynch" dont tell me, show me".

Yeah, Jenkins was so physical weak people who watched at practice saw him fall down running routes untouched lol

From what I've read the Shanahan's wanted to pass on RGIII and they liked Cousins. Snyder was in love with RGIII and established the close bond that ruined relationships between the player and coaches.

What is the Academy and it's relation to the 49ers with this comment ?

Its a scouting school of sorts run by Dan Hatman, a former NFL scout. Several members of their current class got sitdowns with NFL teams at the Senior Bowl, don't know if any were hired though.

He said a lot will go into that grade, like speaking to the player and see if they can detect BS. Speaking to strength coaches, position coaches, and people that can't do anything for the player or gain anything from the player.

I know the Shanahans dont like him now. But im pretty sure they were singing a different tune when they went from a 5 win team to a 10 win team with a rookie quarterback.

The Shanahans don't like him now because of this...

DeShone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame Height: 6-4. Weight: 230
Mitch Trubisky*, QB, North Carolina Height: 6-3. Weight: 220

Gunner Kiel, QB, Cincinnati Height: 6-4. Weight: 208
Greg Ward Jr., QB, Houston Height: 5-11. Weight: 185

Peterman, Kelly, Beathard, Towles, Kayaa all played in a pro style offense.

To me, Peterman is the most "Shanahan-ish" quarterback, coming out of a pro style offense that called for a lot of moving pockets and bootlegs, very adept at throwing on the run, moving through his progressions, good QB IQ, show consistent improvement in college.

LOL. You can do your own research there. Like Mike said, they'd do what they could to make it work...but...yeah. Same concept with Kyle but he got the hell out of there.

If you know anything about the WCO, there is a reason they are attracted to the aforementioned (both in our history and currently in FA). Even our own Steve Young didn't become the complete QB until he mastered being a pocket passer and only used his legs when in trouble (or by design). But he had to dedicate himself to years and completely buy into becoming that QB.

Can a spread QB grow into that? Sure...but we don't have a Joe Montana currently and a Steve Young coming into the fold years down the road.

Mike didn't want to trade all of those picks when he had a later round Qb in mind in Cousins. He still drafted Cousins.

Yeah, I didn't mean to imply that Lynch was just going to look in a crystal ball and see how much "competitiveness and toughness" a player has. It is an intrinsically mostly subjective process but by looking at many factors and comparing notes with other knowledgeable and savvy people that you trust to have good judgement about those qualities does temper the subjectivity element. I'm glad he is doing it.
