I saw this for Berry... not sure where you are seeing this for Cousins. Just that he's apparently willing to bet on himself because he wants a lot of guaranteed money.

It was the same segment on NFLN. Now be cautious...this is nothing more than agent leverage informing Ian so as to put pressure on their clubs via media to pay up and offer big long term contracts (with the threat of not playing; only leverage their clients have). No coincidence in the Cousins article below either.

Not that I wouldn't love to add talent, but I'd like to see both of those guys stay where they are and continue to progress with their current teams.

I think it would be best that the 49ers build from within at the QB position and stick with some of the young talent they have at FS and SS.

First year HC and first year GM...let them build through the draft to start off and see where we are by OTAs. Maybe a couple of FAs here or there but nothing to move the needle. If this is gonna be a rebuild let it be a rebuild.

I hear that...but torn too. You add a FQB any chance you get...if you can ideally do it via the draft and grow/develop and have him for 5 years, you've lucked out. If you can't, you do whatever you can to acquire him. I can certainly see both sides to this one. I gotta trust Kyle on this one.

That would leave the GM in a weak position and these guys probably see themselves as ready for full GM power. But I still see them picking another person up for the FO...just have no idea what the title will be. Or should I say...I hope they do?

Good point. I remembered when Florio noted early on in the process that it appeared we were looking more for a VP of Player Personnel...that became Adam Peters and Lynch became his boss. I'm curious if he'll bring in more folks as well...hope so. Would love a team of specialists...like coaches.
Just in case anyone missed it-

Report: John Lynch has final say on 90-man roster, Kyle Shanahan on cut to 53-

UPDATE 6:15 p.m. ET: Trotter has clarified his previous report to say that Lynch will have final say on the 90-man roster, draft and free agency with Shanahan holding control of the 53-man roster.

Makes sense, I like that setup.

Makes sense, but I bet both will have input in each others decisions.

Man it is exciting times isn't it? A GM that is smart enough to know what he doesn't know and have people help him. If only we had this with Harbaugh. but oh well shanny ftw!

The good thing about having a team for Lynch to work with is the ability to keep Jed and Paraag in line. Of course, they could try to divide them but I see Lynch as smart enough to hire guys he can count on if push comes to shove.

That's the thing most attractive to me. Get a couple more in house and that analytics department might start shrinking a bit. Plus the more FO staff you add the better chance you have of developing guys up the ranks...like noted for Peters. If Gamble moves on, he can become a GM Assistant...then GM. Or straight to GM. Lynch just has to define roles and allow room for development and growth.

Lynch with Harbaugh. Good God that would've been awesome.

So let's be clear here. People can speculate about Marathe's role all they want which is fine, let's just make sure you state that it's YOUR SPECULATION and YOUR INFERENCE not what has happened or what's assuredly known.

This has happened twice now in the last 40 days: someone goes on the record to say Paraag isn't that bad and he gets called a tool or mouthpiece. Kawakami did it with Gase, and now people are doing it with Lynch. If you're entitled to your half-informed opinion, because let's face it, you don't know s**t absolutely because you're not privy to conversations so in actuality you don't know for sure who really made decisions, the decision process or who are the primary influencers for sure. If you're entitled to your opinion despite not knowing s**t for sure, Gase and Lynch are entitled to theirs given they know more than you.

I'm not defending Marathe. Rumors might be true. Rumors might not. I'm just making an obvious observation before everyone gets too sure of themselves about "Moneyball, " and now Paraag is responsible for ACL picks (Really??). It's hilarious to me how and if we could bring back the Baalke thread, everyone blamed Baalke for that and now that he's gone its Paraag's ACL picks and decisions? Even though I absolutely DO NOT get that logic, you all are entitled to your opinions about that.

Lastly, I'll continue to say as I've said in other places and what other posters have attributed; when an organization fails, it's not just one person who causes that failure. Yes, Jed and Paraag are part of that failure, but Baalke and everyone else within the organization takes a share of that failure commensurate to their role. And debating whose share should be at what significance is always a welcomed debate.

In any event, skepticism is always welcome but trying to create this consensus with certainty is BS. This is a Kawakami/Cohen tactic - if I keep saying it despite other opinions, it must be correct.

Naw.

I'm actually more excited about Shanahan...think he could have an even higher upside due to a real WCO, building it up from scratch and especially because of his X's and O's over Greg Roman

Finally the WCO returns! I can't wait to see Kyle's version of it in a couple of years when the roster is turned over. Damn it's still difficult to say Greg Roman without throwing up in my mouth a little bit.

His play calling has been pretty impressive this year. I liked it in Washington as well.
Lynch is a smart man, unlike Baalke.

He understands that despite disagreements, they have to work together.

Someone on the radio a few days ago claimed that Baalke would sign guys that Fangio had no clue about.

Lol. I think he went for like 8 minutes straight without Tolbert or Lund saying a word.

i listen to knbr podcast sometimes and his always like 30 minutes plus lol

That latest KNBR Young interview was gold. Incredibly insightful and a great listen. When someone just shrugs it all off and says "derp... too long... concussions" it says more about the listener than it does Young.

(He hasn't had any concussion symptoms since a few weeks after the Week 4 1999 hit, BTW).

Wow more personal attacks on webzone members instead of sticking to the subject matter.

You're a funny guy, you ask for it, then whine when someone lets you have it, lol.
