I could possibly see the return of Nolan under Kyle. They did work together for a year while in Atlanta.

Nolan was long gone before Kyle got there.

Matt Maiocco suggests:
Another strong candidate to join Shanahan's staff as defensive coordinator is Falcons' secondary/senior defensive assistant Marquand Manuel. Manuel played eight NFL seasons as a defensive back and worked with Falcons coach Dan Quinn at the University of Florida, then Seattle before moving onto Atlanta.

FWIW he was a player at Florida but never coached there.

I want a proven DC not a 1st time DC
1. Lou Spanos
2. Raheem Morris
3. Haslett

He's also the guy who drew controversy for his combine chat with Eli Apple.

Im thrilled about Shanahan...but, the knock on him is that hes been suspicious and self conscious. It will be very interesting to see if he picks a bunch of junior "frat boy" assistant coaches, or if he shows the self confidence to bring in a seasoned staff, at least at DC.
As much as I really love the idea of bringing either Ulbrich or Schulters (2 players I loved when they were 9ers) back to the 9ers as coaches, I'm not sure we want to go with a first timer at DC as well.

I think we'd be well served to bring in an experienced DC, possibly even one with HC experience. If we could get Mike Smith I think that'd be great. His experience and demeanor would be a nice balance with Shanahan.

Also, I don't think we really need to worry about whether this new DC runs a 3-4 or a 4-3. We've got so much rebuilding to do I think we could go in either direction. Actually I sometimes wonder if we're fewer pieces away from being a good 4-3 team....
I think he is going to bring Marquand Manuel with him.

Just please no Raheem Morris or tampa 2 guys.

Vrabel, Dontell, Ulbrich, would be my three top choices.

The biggest knock I see on Manuel, may also be his biggest intrigue. He's still relatively wet behind the ears as a coach, but is rising up the coaching ranks quickly, which is an indication that he's a bright individual from a coaching aspect. Scary enough though, O'Neil ascended up the ladder fairly quickly also.

Raheem Morris, Jim Haslett and Ed Donatell come to mind. The first two guys I would contact would be Romeo Crennel and John Pagano
