Having anxiety isn't being "mentally soft". Shameful conclusion.

One doesn't need to slander Young to prop up Montana. They were both great QBs.

This is where I've always been.....they are both my favorite players of all time. Montana at his peak was the greatest QB ever and Young at his peak was a top 10 all time QB. We are so lucky to have had each of them.

I agree!
For what it is..... Montana was the old school Brady, and Young was the old school Rodgers.Fair comparisons??
To me I'll always be more of a Young fan than a Montana fan.

This. Different avenues to get a franchise QB. Some are acquired via top draft picks, some aren't.

Look at our own HOF QBs. Montana drafted in the 3rd. Young acquired via trade.

Everybody loves Packers execs. Look what they did. Acquired Favre (former 2nd rd pick) via trade. Drafted Rodgers bottom half of 1st rd. Former Packer exec now Raiders GM McKenzie drafted Derek Carr in the 2nd.

Starts with a great front office. Get the right coaches in here who can identify and develop quality QBs.

Yeah. I remember Steve when Montana got injured/benched, first thing he does is break the NFL QB rushing record for that game I think. Dude never got past his 2nd checkdown before he was running. But eventually he developed. That run where he went through the entire defense (was it the Vikings or the rams?) game where he set that record was friggen amazing. He ran like 60 yards as the crow flies, but he was Hugh MCElhenny on that run man and probably ran for more than a 100 yards. But again, Steve developed into a fine QB, but it took a lot of patience and **YEARS** under some of the best offensive coaches and minds in the business.

Young couldn't hold the bootlaces of Montana.

Like chalk and cheese.

Montana loved the moment; Young shied away from it and blamed mental issues for his lack of physical ability to get the job done.
