So if/when we lose by a couple touchdowns, is this board going to suddenly quit on the whole season?

There will be some of that, most realistic minds understand that the team is going up against the NFC champs, with all Odds against them.

Think about the reverse - if the Niners win the board will be out of their mind talking playoffs - which isn't likely as well.

Depends on how we lose by 2 touchdowns. If it's a "the game wasn't as close as the score" then probably a mini meltdown. But if it's more like "that game was much closer than the score" then no worries.

Johnathan Stewart is listed as Questionable for the game Sunday. If he doesn't play that boosts the Niners chances quite a bit.

They got rid of "Probable" listings on the injury report. There's a 95% chance he's playing, IMO.
A couple random facts from the Panthers last game (from various online sources, including Panthers forum. They're reading this thread)

The Broncos averaged 4.8 YPC on runs to the left of C Matt Paradis, and 7.2 YPC to the right of him. Had a 5.1 total average.

Because the Broncos used so much 3 WR sets, Shaq Thompson only played in 18 of a possible 58 snaps

The Broncos blitzed on 5 of Cam Newton's final 6 dropbacks. He was 4-of-9 against the blitz in the 2nd half

Penalties

Panthers: 8 for 85 yards

Broncos: 4 for 22 yards

When the Panthers give up a lot of yards per carry, the next couple weeks they do very well against the run. They lost via turnovers and Denver rushing/big plays. This week they will focus on stopping the Niners running game. A closer look at Denvers big runs vs the Panthers last week:

Big plays-

The Panthers didnt have a pass over 20 yards all game. Had three 10+ yard runs. Denver had six 10+yard runs. One 25+yard pass.
Good stuff.

They are going to force Gabbert to beat us. Won't be surprised if they stack the box and man our WRs.

Not worried if we lose. The scheduling is making this a weird game. I just want to see progress but the scheduling could also affect that.

I do feel it will be different than the Harbowl because Kelly's offense is very easy to apply so the game plan won't be a cramming session. Maybe for the defense, but we have some smart players.

Spot on.

I know I already posted my simple/generic keys to the game, like Madden commentary, "you have to take that ball, move it down the field and get into the endzone while keeping the other guys from doing the same".

But ya, our secondary will either be clutch or the reason we lose this game. Well, along with our passing game. I think it will be the battle of who can pass the best and who can score off turnovers.

I think both D's will have a similar game plan to stop the run from RB's and QB's.

Panthers are going to try to contain Gabberts run. Force him to beat them via the pocket and I think we will try the same with Cam. They're going to play Gabbert as if he were Kap.

Will Newton have one of his 150 yard passing 2 int games or one of his 300+ yard passing 3TD games? This will be our defenses first real test. Gabbert must aslo play better. Limit mistakes. Throw from a more solid base. Stay calm. Try to be at one with the fast pace of the game.

Fun positivity aside, we dominated the Rams defensively. I'm not sure if we'll do that vs the Panthers, which could limit our offenses opportunities.

If our D cant come up with some turnovers I think we lose this game 28 to 14 or 28 to 17. If our D can come up big again it's all in Gabberts hands, for better or worse. He's going to have to pass well Sunday. He did OK vs some good defenses last year so I know he has it in him. The 2015 Seattle/Cards games werent bad. We need that Gabbert, not the Gabbert we saw vs the Bears/Browns.

Don't know how much of the panther's game you saw, but one thing we better darn well have is a spy on Cam, unless he is still head dizzy from the crappy blows to the head. But if we don' t have someone on him he is going to eat our lunch.
