Here is a thought, last year we had a bad oc and a bad oline. We fixed both. Our defense will be as good if not better than last year although I think we are still a little soft up the middle if we can't run 8 in the box.

This game probably won't be a blowout.

I believe we will be the more physical team on Sunday.

Yeah. A well coached team will always show up prepared. Let's see what Kelly brings on Sunday.

We are a different team. We are well coached. Admittedly there are so many questions about us but no one is even talking about that there just may be a coming of age for all these draft picks we have been developing. There are around 3 new players we drafted who are as hungry to make their mark in this league. I'm not sold at all on Gabbert and we need major help at the WR position, but we have some major young talent who just may be ready to break out.

Just because they aren't known yet doesn't mean they won't be by the end of the season. This is a very similar moment the Seahawks went through from 2010 and on. There is hardly anyone left from our 2011 team. We have had an influx of all new talent

I can't stress how much of an advantage CAR has in this game due to schedule. I would feel better if they had played Sunday instead of Thursday. Not including Sunday, they will have had 9 days rest. We will only have 5.

All the soreness, stiffness and dings they had are most likely 100% recovered from which means their bodies are ready to go as if it were Week 1. Our players' body will still be sore, stiff, and they will feel slower.

Have a feeling we are just going to play slower a half a step and won't be able to recover from the damage it will do to us early on in the game.

Our keys to success:

• Put pads on Newton. Hit him early and often and we'll start to see the high and errant passes he's known for. If our pass rush resembles anything like that debacle that happened during the Pittsburgh game last year, we're toast. One thing about Newton last year is that my negro had time in the pocket to file tax returns. Make him Captain check down like Case Keenum and he'll get impatient and try to force a play deeper down the field.
• Pound the rock. I don't care about negative and 1 or 2 yard gains. Make those LB's and safety creep up and...
• Then test those rookie CBs deep. This has to be Torrey's coming out party this season. Even if we don't connect, take a couple of shots to make those safety's concerned about helping their young CBs. When they do..go back to pounding the rock.

This was our biggest issue last year...and youth. Defense was the best at home and very poor away. Let's see how prepared we look this year under Kelly.

Yeah, the scheduling doesn't work in our favor. It's already tough enough traveling to the east coast, 10:00 am start, against the defending NFC champs. Now add the fact we're on short rest while the Panthers are on 10 days rest. Exact same situation last year heading against Pittsburgh.

This is the 2nd year in a row the NFL put us at an added disadvantage heading into week 2. I get the schedule makers can't make everybody happy, but they seriously couldn't find a way to avoid screwing us over like this 2 years in a row? Ridiculous.

Regardless, we seem to be a better coached team now and I expect a competitive game.

This is true but it helps that it's the second week of the season. Players are fresh and coaches had time before the season to set a framework game plan for the first several teams. The young DL will be big enough to keep Cam contained and then the blitzing will get to him. Bowman, Reid, Blair...go 9ers!

Yeah, it's not going to change...just want to give myself a realization that the outcome of this game may not come out the way we would like. Last year, vs PIT, I didn't think we had a chance either way if all things were even. But this year, I think our team quite possibly has one of the stronger foundations (OL/DL/RB/DEF) in the league.

That's usually how it goes. Before we beat the Lambs, all they hype was about how great their front 7 was and how Gurley was going to run all over our defense. Tuesday morning, the Rams sucked.

So this team needs a body of work. A 4-2 or a 5-3 record midseason would help along the way.

Sports Science, mang. That's why Chip does those 10 AM practices. We'll be fresh in that respect because we're used to early activity. I'm more worried about a pissed off team and the homecoming game. 50% of the game is mental so they'll be playing like super humans. Hopefully this tropical storm dumps some rain that day to keep this game on the ground.

Problem with that is the first half of the schedule is...brutal! I can still see 9-7 or 8-8, and that will surprise people enough. I picked 4-3 in games before the bye. But if they surprise I'll be...
