Can Garnett play C?

Playing in the 4th quarter against guys that will be out of the league in a few weeks. I think he's due for a spot on the practice squad and a guy that they can develop long term.

Are you counting on him breaking his leg all over again? There is absolutely nothing to indicate that he is injury prone in anyway.

I think it will end up being:

LT- Staley
LG- Garnett
C- Kilgore
RG- Tiller
RT- Davis

Swing T- Brown
Interior backup- Beadles

PS- Theus,Cooper

I think it will come down to who Kelly believes in more between Tiller and Brown. Whoever he picks, Davis will start somewhere on the right side. Also if Chip decides to keep 8 OL on the 53 (idk what he did in philly, maybe someone here knows how many OL he kept) Cooper will stay. IMO it will be harder to get him thru waivers

That's a great question and I was thinking the same thing. Kilgore isn't bad, he's just not that good imo. I'd definitely rather see him as the odd man out before Tiller or Brown. Either way it's awesome that this question can even be asked.

Mentally I'm sure Garnett could handle it, but physically it doesn't seem like the right fit IMO.

Either way, him moving to C would likely require at least a whole offseason to get him mentally acclimated to the position.

That's pretty much what I was trying to say in my earlier response, I just did a s**tty job of saying it.

Zane is on a short contract. No need to move Garnett around.

Kilgore was coming off an injury last year and I seem to remember him not really being right until the very end of the season if at all.

Center requires more mentally than the other OL positions and just sticking Garnett there because he's one of the perceived best 5 would be unwise, especially this close to the start of the season.

I find it hard to believe that Kilgore isn't starting every single game at C this season if healthy.

After this season, all bets are off obviously.

That was the crux of my question. Whether Garnett is right to play that position, rather than simply sticking a square peg in a round hole. He's already an interior linemen, and by all accounts, intelligence is one of his great strengths. Now that doesn't mean he's right for Center, but I was hoping to get some thoughts on that from someone who really understand the OL and what it takes to play that. I could see a future where he's at Center, Davis is at LG and Tiller/Brown man the right side. I think Tiller has earned his starting spot, up to now

At this point, I would only look at Garnett at guard seeing as how he was probably either our number 1 or 2 guard the day he was drafted. Now if he were the 3rd of 4th best guard in camp, but still looked like a first round talent, then I would give him a look at center so as to have our five best on the field.

Martin should have a leg up on Sib., after going through a learn on the fly job he had last year

That offensive line is
1) enormous
2) talented af, 3 first rounders, one guy who has first round talent, and Kilgore who has played at a high level in the past(even if it was brief).
3) locked up contractually for quite a bit of time.

As an ex-offensive lineman that line legitimately makes me happy and excited to watch.

If it is as good as many of us think it will be, there are no longer excuses for these qb's. Kelly can scheme open s**tty wide receivers all day, and with pass protection there shouldn't be any issues, if the qb's suck then we know they suck indefinitely. All though most of probably already know they do

No, he's worse at sustaining blocks than Kilgore at this point in his career. Doesn't move his feet and gets turned way too easily. Pass blocking was a weakness of his in college and he's never taken snaps, if I recall. Pick up a quality veteran who knows what they're doing and is an upgrade over DK.
