If he can get his concentration/hands to an average level, he has everything else to be better than Celek. Celek's hands seem very and he has that over Vance. Miller converting to a "move TE" probably means he will most likely not be playing inline. This could be a good camp battle.

Vance has the physical tools to be a top TE. Being consistent is key. Can't have a nice catch for 15 yards then drop one then catch one and fumble it. Like Madden always says 90% of the game is half mental.

90% is half mental?

Sex Panther, 60% of the time it works every time

"They're either going to run the ball here, or they're gonna pass it" -John Madden
When your arm gets hit, the ball is not going to go where you want it to.
Bruce Miller has changed positions. We all know that he has good hands and can block, the only question that I have is, how good will he be from comming of the line of scrimmage?
Blake Bell will be a starter. Not sure if he'll be the #1, but I believe he'll start. If he shows the same same development that McDonald did in terms of blocking, Bell could be both a better blocker and receiver than Vance. He's already got better hands. As an extremely raw rookie still transitioning from QB to TE, he almost had the same number of snaps as Celek (352 to 399). McDonald had 468 snaps last year.

In terms of production, this is how it shook out:

Bell: 15 catches for 186 yards
Celek: 19 catches for 186 yards, 3 TDs
McDonald: 30 catches for 325 yards, 3 TDs

So, as much as i like Celek, Bell could be on the cusp of a major leap in production, especially in this offense. McDonald did not do all that much more than either player, despite a lot more playing time.
It's time for Vance to go. I think Celek and bell are both better receivers and in chips offense the TEs are going to block less. I hope that Stanford guy is going to take his spot.
Celek.

I see a lot of seam routes from the TE in Chip's offense, or maybe it's just because Ertz is a good downfield target that Chip incorporated that into his offense. Either way, I think Vance's speed can be an asset. Just those damn hands of his holding him back.

Here's a nice Cover3 buster - Scissors concept, run with double TEs. Scissors looks to horizontally stretch the deep 1/3 defender.

The read is on the orange deep 1/3 defender. When he follows the Corner route, the correct target is to the Post.

I don't anticipate Cajuste being a TE. At 6-3 227, he's got a much better shot at WR because he's got better size and good speed at that size (4.42 pro day time) than almost all of the group there.

I like the athleticism we have in the group we have competing now. On a side note, I'd be curious to see if Bruce Miller would drop any weight to increase speed. Say, play at 6-1 242. He ran a 4.67 before the draft when he weighed 254. He plays at 248 for us.

Vance McDonald, 6-4 267 4.69
Garrett Celek, 6-4 250 4.72
Busta Anderson, 6-5 244 4.73
Blake Bell, 6-6 252 4.80
Bruce Miller, 6-1 248 4.67

Miller Celek and Bell
if he can improve consistency it will be vance- consistency is holding him back from being elite imo

speed, power, blocking and is a monster to bring down after the catch - if he gets his head together he will beast
Bell Miller Anderson.

McDonland is awful, hands of stone, and the agility of an iceberg.
I never liked Vance as a TE. Everyone was nuts about him when he was drafted and I had seen his film and he caught balls awkwardly that were on target but made some great catches on bad passes. He just is not a natural pass catcher. Could that change well kind of. VD wasn't a great hands catcher by any means but it improved. But no one ever considered him as having great hands. He did best when catching with his chest or the long ball.

Anyway I've always been surprised at celek but he seems injured more than healthy.

I honestly don't know. It will be interesting. We definately don't have anyone of Errtz ability on the roster.

Whats most interesting to me is it seems at least 3 people were wide open on this play. I can remember lots of plays last year where it seemed the defense new what we were going to call presnap.
