So what the heck is the plan at WR?

I want to see the young guys compete. I wouldn't mind bringing Boldin back as a mentor and to add a legit option at WR to help evaluate the QBs if the young guys struggle. But I'd prefer him to be a mentorship role, more in the background. I don't think he wants to do that at this point in his career, but if he gets no offers out there, might be nice to bring him back.

perfect example of why we should not sign x niners. they are x niners for a reason

Quinton Patton - 6 feet, 204 LBs
Antonio Brown - 5'10" 186 LBs
I know those two aren't in the same stratosphere talent wise, but small WRs can be successful in the NFL.

I thought Patton was shorter, shows how much I know.

I'm curious where Eric Rogers fits in. Any word on his skill set?

Everybody seems to want the same thing, something many of us have wanted since Harbaw arrived...and that simply is throwing zillions of passes to all these guys, let them compete til they drop....adn then keeping the best, and moving on from the rest. If we start this season and there is an unknown talent at ANY position, then Chip will have failed in me estimation. FIVE yrs we have been doing this, going into drafts not knowing what we have sitting on the bench.
And while at it, signing an ACL guy or some other injury, and then two yrs later not knowing if he has "IT" or not, is jsut idiotic. We have done that with several players, and still, have no idea whether they can play or not. I would think if an injured player still can't get out there and show what he has after a full yr on IR, then he should be cut and we move on. Keeping guys around another yr to see if they can rehab...is just crazy.

Don't worry about Patton, if he can stay healthy, this by far really is the 1st time that he would get a FAIR shot regarding playing time.. I believe that his talent is unlimited that had we had a QB like Stafford or Big Ben, Patton woulda put up the same big numbers and stats similar to their ALL PROs wide out.
THIS IS THE YEAR BABY!!!
He is terrible. 3 years and under 400 years. There is a reason he hasn't produced, he sucks.
Niners only have 1 real WR. Maybe Kelly has some crazy idea where he doesn't need more than 1 WR.
the guy is not terrible.. he just has not gotten his chances... 1st year, he hurt hig leg.. came back late and had a KEY CATCH vs the CARDS that allow us to win the game and the DIVISION..
year two, wast just too big of a year for both Boldin and Crabb and even Vernon..
year 3, Baalke just had to JUSTIFY the signing of Lloyd, so the guy was used more when in fact, it shoulda been Patton's learning year.
NOW, with the MACHINE GUN offense, similar to LaTECH's spread, Patton should be awesome.. he may just put up 60+ catches if he can stay healthy and if our QB (who ever that may be) can be productive..
We be DAMNNNN if this turns out to be his CONTRACT year, and expect BAALKE to allow him to walk and sign someplace else..

He's unstoppable when the endzones are 20 yards deep.

I was originally excited, but I don't see him anything more than situational. He's a tall guy who can go up and get the ball, but he's not an explosive athlete. He dominated lesser competition, but his highlight video isn't as impressive as one would hope. I think he can be a decent red zone target.

highly doubtful the #2 WR will see more than 40
In Philly the main target after the first WR was the RB and TE #2 and #3 WR each got around 25 catches

that was in Philly... they didn't have the WRs that we do.. and they do have the TEs that we don't have.. really hard to compare..
