Nice post! No way we keep just 5 CB's. We'll be in dime and nickel 60-70% of the time. Low numbers on the OL too. But I like your line of thinking a lot on the rest. Also, Balducci plays on the OL now.

I was thinking the same thing for the CBs. With the youth at this position group, it would be good to have numbers. McCray and Bellore seem the most likely to be bumped in favor of a CB. The team just needs to be confident in other guys for special teams.

I totally forgot about Balducci making that switch. I still don't see him making the team.

I think Darren Lake will make this team and may even start

Mine is on post #23 and I have Cherry but it sounded like today, Purcell was taking the NT snaps. If we want to keep Dial at DE, then Lake could be retained over Cherry.

Patton already hurt... should've been conditioning his body more instead of practicing some showboat handshake with Elly
I'd really like us to still add another ILB, OLB, C and RB... as I think we can upgrade Wilhoite, Lemonier, Martin and we need depth at RB unless Davis or Taylor can step up.. and even Harris and Draughn aren't ideal #2s and 3s. Not a fan of Theus, I think he can be PS'd without danger of being picked up - if AD doesn't come back and it's looking that way, I'd prefer to just carry 8 OL

overall I'm actually really liking our depth, especially at TE, DL and DB. I like the potential of our WRs, would still take Boldin back though. Starting OL looks good on paper even with T Brown in there and I think a lot of these youngster at the end of the depth chart could be nice for STs

Really need some of these eggs to hatch, Ward and Lynch can still get better. Carradine back down to his college weight could be huge, Harold is bigger and stronger. Hodges can get better too, and the sky's the limit for Tartt. The D seems young, but Bowman, Bethea, Brooks, Brock, Reid, Williams and Dorsey are all veteran leaders and Dial, Lynch and Ward are graduating into that role

Biggest concerns are OL depth and RB depth, but we have a lot of bodies - so maybe we can get a surprise or two out of TC, if not a couple TC trades/waiver pick ups. OLB depth is also a concern, but maybe Carradine and Blair being 3rd down pass rushers helps that

QB: Colin Kaepernick/Blaine Gabbert
RB: Carlos Hyde | Shaun Draughn | DuJuan Harris | Mike Davis? (or Kelvin Taylor)

WR: Quinton Patton | Bruce Ellington
WR: Torrey Smith | Dres Anderson?
WR: DeAndre Smelter/Eric Rogers
TE: Garrett Celek | Blake Bell | Bruce Miller | Vance McDonald

LT: Joe Staley | Fahn Cooper?
LG: Zane Beadles | Brandon Thomas
C: Daniel Kilgore | Marcus Martin?
RG: Joshua Garnett
RT: (Anthony Davis?) | Trent Brown

LE: Arik Armstead | Quinton Dial
NT: Ian Williams | Glenn Dorsey | Quinton Dial
RE: DeForest Buckner | Cornellius Carradine | Ronald Blair III

OLB: Aaron Lynch
ILB: Navarro Bowman | Michael Wilhoite (or Ray Ray Armstrong or Shayne Skov)
ILB: Gerald Hodges Jr. | Jaquiski Tartt | Nick Bellore
OLB: Ahmad Brooks | Eli Harold

CB: Tramaine Brock | Keith Reaser | Will Redmond
FS: Eric Reid | Jimmie Ward
SS: Antoine Bethea | Jaquiski Tartt | LJ McCray
CB: Jimmie Ward | Kenneth Acker | Dontae Johnson | Rashard Robinson

I did one earlier this offseason in the 2016 team needs thread, here's my updated one after recent news, some guys are players I think or hope make the team.

Offense:

QB- Gabbert, Kaepernick, Driskel
RB- Hyde, Taylor, Draughn, Harris
WR- Smith, Smelter, Rogers, Ellington, Patton, Burbridge
TE- Celek, Miller, Bell, Anderson
WR/TE- Cajuste
C- Kilgore, Balducci
OG- Beadles, Garnett, Cooper
OT- Staley, Brown, Theus

Defense:

DE- Armstead, Buckner, Dial, Blair
NT- Williams(I'm saying he is healthy, hopefully for the season opener), Purcell, Lake
OLB- Brooks, Lynch, Harold, Carradine
ILB- Bowman, Hodges, Wiloite, Armstrong
CB- Brock, Johnson, Ward, Robinson, Redmond
S- Bethea, Reid, Tartt, McCray

Special Teams:

PK- Dawson
P- Pinion
LS- Nelson

Injured List:

DE/NT Glenn Dorsey(Probably PUP to start)

PSquad

RB Mike Davis(4th Rd pick being cut is rare, but I think if cut, he makes the PSquad)
WR Bryce Treggs(Got a $8K bonus as a UDFA)
OG Blake Muir (He got $20K guaranteed as a UDFA)
OT Colin Kelly(He got $80K guaranteed at signing when signed from the CFL)
DE Demetrius Cherry(Got a $2,500 bonus as a UDFA)
OLB Jason Faniaka(Got $50K guaranteed as a UDFA)
ILB Lenny Jones(Got $13K guaranteed as a UDFA)
CB Prince Charles Iworah(7th rd pick is talented, I think he has a good shot at making the 53 man if we choose an extra DB)
S Jered Bell(Got a $2,500 bonus as a UDFA)
PK John Lunsford(Got $10K guaranteed as a UDFA)

Key cuts:

QB Thad Lewis(Keep on speed dial if needed)
WR Jerome Simpson(Too many younger guys ahead of him, plus salary would be guaranteed if he made roster)
WR DiAndre Campbell
WR Dres Anderson
TE Vance McDonald(Try to trade him, if not then cut him)
TE Je'Ron Hamm
C Marcus Martin(I like Balducci better, since he played OL in HS, plus he could double as a C/NT)
C Ian Silberman
OG Andrew Tiller (Toughest cut, I like him, but not sure he fits Chip's offense, or the ZBS)
OT Erik Pears(Obvious cut)
DE Tony Jerod-Eddie(Only $25K guaranteed, so he is easily cuttable)
DE Kaleb Ramsey
OLB Corey Lemonier(Been a disappointment since he was drafted)
ILB Nick Bellore(Tough cut, but I think Armstrong makes it, plus he's a bit cheaper than Bellore, and can play Defense unlike Bellore)
CB Keith Reaser(Not a big fan of Reaser)
CB Kenneth Acker(I don't get the hype for Acker, he is not one of the best 53 players IMO)

I think Lake is a better bet, as he got a $3K base guarantee. Cherry is PS IMO.

Updates. Bethea back in.

I don't see Bethea cut, not after what DC O'Neil said about him and Reid as a tandem, he sticks for one more year.
